The Star

Elke Löhr from Bochum, Germany

My name is Elke Löhr, I am 47 years old and live in Bochum, Germany. I like playing the guitar in my free time, I like singing and sometimes I write songs about things that touch me inside. To be more precise I try to capture feelings of mine like sadness or happiness in music and I try to share those with people around me.

The song "The Star" is one of the first songs I recorded in a studio. It was written after one of my many Chris De Burgh concerts. I had noticed his ways and how friendly he was towards his "fans". But I had also realized that some fans are really sad when the concert is over. Chris is not only a superstar, he has also become a friend who plays an important part in their lives for many of his fans. Therefore I tried to capture and express this feeling in my song "The Star".

Lyrics:

The lights are going out; no sound, no applause
Wearing a content smile, you enjoy this time alone
It's been a perfect show; and the fans, they sang along
In the multicoloured lights, that's right where you belong

And you'll never see
You'll never see
All the tears that she cries right after the shows
You'll never see, you'll never see
All the tears that she cries, right after the shows
You'll never see

Sometimes she gave you roses, or a bottle of red wine
Sometimes she wrote a letter and lay awake all night
That's when she takes her guitar, when she sings all you songs
She wants to be a good friend, but the distance was to long

And you'll never see
You'll never see
All the tears that she cries right after the shows
You'll never see, you'll never see
All the tears that she cries, right after the shows
You'll never see

Again she's at the stage; she's looking at your face
She's singing all your songs, of her sadness there's no trace
She's afraid that she might loose you, that you cannot understand
That she doesn't see the star, that she only sees a friend.

And you'll never see
You'll never see
All the tears that she cries right after the shows
You'll never see, you'll never see
All the tears that she cries, right after the shows
You'll never see

The lights are going out; no sound, no applause
Wearing a content smile, you enjoy this time alone
It's been a perfect show; and the fans, they sang along
In the multicoloured lights, that's right where you belong

And you'll never see
You'll never see
All the tears that she cries right after the shows
You'll never see, you'll never see
All the tears that she cries, right after the shows
You'll never see
