Chris de Burgh Tribute CD project - volume 7

Words Like A Dream

Monika Maid
Ingolstadt, Germany

My name is Monika Maid and I am born in Neuburg/Donau in Germany Bavaria. Around 1984, when I studied Social Work in Munich, I got in touch with one of the first albums from Chris de Burgh and bought me a box-set one year later. During the years listening to his voice and melodies and the wonderful old tales and stories a dream was growing inside of me, that I would like to see him one day. This dream came true on his Road to Freedom Tour, where he gave a concert in my town. I was fascinated from his new songs and began to search for more concerts of him until I found him in Saalem again on this tour. After I had spend so much time with his music, now getting more and more songs of him on CDs, which he had created during the years when I could not find him in person, it happened, that I began to sit down with my simple concert-guitar and words were comming into my mind, which gave a song. So the idea to create something like music out of the audience was born, something like a musical answer to him and all his wonderful lyrics, which had filled so many evenings of my life with joy.

The song "Words like a dream" is a lovesong to Chris de Burgh in love with his lyrics, his melodies, which she had enjoyed to hear so many years in her life living far, far away from him, when a dream of her life became true, the dream to see him live in her country.

"Words Like A Dream" did not appear on the tribute CD. But you can download the track when you right-click and "save as" here as a bonus track.

Lyrics:

I love it when I hear your voice.
Though you are far apart
It makes me feel you would be near
Just talking to my heart
And when I see you're standing
Out there in the rain
It's just Romeo who*s standing there
To ease away the pain of missing you
Of waiting such a long, long time
Not knowing what the world outside
Is doing with our life
So long time not seen
So long so far apart.

And in the forests there outside
The world was silent, dark and wide
So far apart from all these castle-walls
And snow was falling in the clearings
Where the deers flew from the hounds
That was the world between you and me
I found.

Your words are like a dream tonight
Nearly like a dream here tonight
You're living far apart
And even out of sight:II

I love this look there in your eyes,
A destiny in time,
When something like a tender touch
One day came in my life
And as one day my heart broke down
In thousand splinters in a town,
A castle's world had dried my tears
I saw you there so near,
I'm missing you
The world so wide, so far to go
And dreames dreamed every day and night
In darkness side by side,
So long time not seen
So long so far apart.

So many ways were there outside
Through golden fields in summertimes;
I saw the sunset over hills so clear;
And in the darkness of these nights
Your light was shining there so bright
That was the world between you and me
In time.

Your words are like a dream tonight
Really like a dream here by my side
You're living far apart
And even out of sight:II
