Chris played 90 minutes only with guitar and piano, a very special one-man-show. After a short break he sang with orchestra and chorus and it was still amazing ! Three h o urs of splendid music - most of the songs were ballads and these are still the best songs of Chris de Burgh. It was wonderful to hear 'The snows of New York', 'Borderline', 'Lonely sky', 'The head and the heart', my favorite songs at the moment. When wil l Chris release his next album with 'Riding on a rainbow' and other new songs ? Does he plans to release another album with orchestra ? I used to sta y home from school just to sing with his tapes. Last September Chris was in St. John's and during the concert I got up and sang The Girl With April In Her Eyes with him. I actually live in Staines near London but my home is Dalkey, just a couple of roads up from the man himself. I've even taught his kids art before, My Dad's girlfriend, Tiggy, runs the art school they go to. I discovered Chris de Burgh years ago when Dad played me his tape 'Flying Colours'. From then on I went 'Chris Mad' and bought up every tape I could find. As a result I have about three copies of over half his work. I see him in Dalkey frequently on my t r ips home. Chris has always been a symbol of my home village and when I miss it I just get out my Chris de Burgh tapes, (and a bag of marshmallows), and have a good remeniscence session. Wendy

Since then I've had a few albums but nothing could compare to having attended his Concert in Ottawa last September. I was visiting for a few weeks, and was invited to tag along. I'd been to other concerts, but nothing like this. I'm hooked, I'm on the hunt to find them all now.. :) A couple of my favorite tunes are Lonely Sky, In a Country ChurchYard and The Traveller... I have been in Ireland twice and I visited the castle area (where he used to live when he was younger - now his parents live there). I have only had the luxury once, in 1982(?). He was opening for ASIA in New Haven, CT, and I spent the better part of the evening trying to track him down, to no avail. Since "Flying Colours" I have periodically checked in with retail stores about new releases, only to be told there were none. PLEASE, someone tell me how to get a hold of the latest releases, along with the VIDEOS! I crave new input!

My husband and I had tickets for the Sept. 28/96 concert at the Civic Centre but alas, I became ill and was too sick to attend. When my husband came home from the concert and I asked him how it was, he sorrowfully told me that it was the concert I had been waiting to attend all my life - Chris de Burgh up close and personal - taking requests, allowing people up on stage to sing - just him - no backup band, no fuss, no muss. I cried like a baby as I have always felt that this incredibly gifted performer and incredibly powerful songwriter was doing himself a grave disservice not showcasing HIMSELF more. I never had any trouble picturing him playing in a small club where the fans are very loyal and the venue is very intimate. Mr. de Burgh, if you read this page, please come back to Ottawa, Ontario soonest and please come back live & unplugged. If I saw it once, I would die a contented woman. You are the reason why I write songs now and you are the reason why I learned to play the guitar. I think you are wonderful.

I don't remember seeing a show like this before. Peoples were singing/standing/clapping all the time. We've all loved him since the first time he appeared on CHOM radio and played in the little theaters and concert halls as well as the Old Forum. Tonight was the f irst tim e he's been at the new Molson Centre and the concert was absolutely mind-blowing!! Montreal fans have always been his most ardent admirers and tonight was no different; our love and admiration for him and his work showed in our applause -- it is the firs t time that I have seen Chris been brought to tears by the love of his "oldest & truest fans", all of us Montrealers... Chris was originally supposed to play only 90 minutes of acoustic in his first half but he got so carried away by the crowd that he pla y ed for at least *2 whole hours* before taking his break. A very lucky young lady by the name of "Marie Plourde" (sorry, no relation to me) was allowed to come up to the front and sing with him; she did an excellent job and received a standing ovation fro m the entire crowd of the Molson Centre!! No small feat as we can be pretty picky... All in all a wonderful and amazing evening, and I would expect no less from such a master troubadour. Being in the states I have a problem getting a hold of the albums (most I have to acquire via import orders) so now I know the symphony album exists from 95' but I hope Chris keeps that harder edge guitar in his music like that found in 'High on Emotion', the Vision 3-part song off Into the Light, Heart of Darkness, Silent World ect... He had spent the summer of 1983 in Germany and was fortunate enough to see Chris in concert. He gave me tapes of "Castle W alls", "Spanish Train", "Perfect Day" and "Getaway". Does anyone know if they are available on CD in the US. I have played my tapes so often that they are just about worn out. It's hard to pick a favorite song although "Patricia the Stripper" is one f a vorite (ha-ha). I, too, wish that the US was more cultured. There were a lot of my old favorites along with some good covers. The Hungarian String Quartet was fantastic as well. It was a night of wonderful music!

I was so taken by Chris voice and music that I began collecting his CD's. However, here in the "States", not all of them are available. I've had to coerce travelling friends to the UK and Ireland to bring back CDs I could not get here. I have them all except "Live in S A ", "This Way Up", and "Beautiful Dreams". My daughter is getting married Sept. 6, and she and her new husband are going to the UK and Ireland for their honeymoon. I hope she can pick these up for me? Is Chris planning any new albums? A co-worker of my husband's at Digital Equipment Corp had to travel to Ireland a few years ago and actually ran into Chris shopping at a local market! What a kick! Among my favourits are "Satin Green Shutters", the entire Spanish Train album (one of the greatest i n the seventies as Supertramp's Crime of the Century, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, Led Zeppelin IV, Queen's News of the World, and Bowie's Ziggy), "In a Country Churchyard", "Crusader" (the album and especially the song), "Eastern Wind" (My absolute f a vourite together with the epic "Revolution"), the entire Getaway album (THE greatest album of the 80s!), "Moonlight and Wodka", the epic "The Leader", "Blonde Hair" and "The Snows of New York".

I think he should record unplugged or on the other hand supported by a good old rock band (why not S u pertramp - that would be a funny event, if you know what I mean...). It always makes me sad, listening to fantastic songs turned down by so-called "perfect" production and arrangements. He should go back to the roots, jump out of the wardrope and start s i nging.

I vowed that I wouldn't just duplicate my music collection on disc......but I had to go and buy all the C de B albums! ! I've seen him live a few times (although not for a while now) and I agree that he's a great live performer. I'm an amateur musician myself and have performed some of his songs in various concerts in the past. I sang "In a Country Churchyard" at a friend' s wedding reception after sh was married in......a Country Church! His two songs "The lady in red" and "Moonlight and vodka" were quite popular in Russia. The last very strange one was about Moscow and probably that made it popular. For the first time (I hope not for the last time) Chris De Burgh visited Moscow in 1994. I saw him in concert in Moscow. It was great. And his new album with orchestra sounds like a beautiful dream.
