Waiting at the water's edge,
Watching all the ships as they are heading for the harbour wall,
I was just a boy, I was just a boy,
Dreaming of the wide world, dreaming of the wide world;
Watching as they disappear,
Reading out the names of all the places I have never been,
Looking out to sea, staring out to sea,
Dreaming of a wide world, dreaming of the wide world;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, with you tonight, with you tonight;
Walking down another street,
Underneath the red lights, I am watching where the shadows fall,
Looking at the girls, listening to the girls,
Dreaming of a new world, dreaming of that new world;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, in your arms tonight,
In your arms tonight;
I wish I was sailing away, sailing away,
Sailing away, with you now, with you now.
i love chris de burgh

It was late at night on the open road,
Speeding like a man on the run,
A lifetime spent preparing for the journey;
He is closer now and the search is on,
Reading from a map in the mind,
Yes there's the ragged hill,
And there's the boat on the river.
And when the rain came down,
He heard a wild dog howl,
There were voices in the night - "Don't do it!"
Voices out of sight - "Don't do it!
Too many men have failed before,
Whatever you do,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Don't even fix a price,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Until he gets you to the other side;"
In the rolling mist, then he gets on board,
Now there'll be no turning back,
Beware that hooded old man at the rudder,
And then the lightning flashed, and the thunder roared,
And people calling out his name,
And dancing bones that jabbered and a-moaned
On the water.
And then the ferryman said,
"There is trouble ahead,
So you must pay me now," - "Don't do it!"
"You must pay me now," - "Don't do it!"
And still that voice came from beyond,
"Whatever you do,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Don't even fix a price,
Don't pay the ferryman,
Until he gets you to the other side;
Don't pay - the ferryman!"
i love chris de burgh

Hello Chris,
Just in case the place of your annual holiday meanwhile gets a little boring for you: In New Zealand they seem to have kind of a little crisis at the moment. Tourism declined, immigration low, and property market crashed. Prices dropped by one third already, and still dropping. Best time to look around for a nice place. My friend Bill could assist you in finding a lovely and suitable one, he´s a property evaluator & experienced.
Love,

Your Song The Journey has brought my family such comfort.. My mom passed over this past March and we miss her terribly. A friend sent me your song, and I have passed it to my family. My dad loves it and plays it daily as I do. It makes us cry, tears of sadness and joy knowing that mom will bring me through the light when I come through! I look forward to the day I can sing this beautiful song, all the way through without crying! Lovely. I hope you dont mind I used this song in a memorium to my mom on my web page www.thehealingrealm.com and also my sunchildren.ning.com site too.

Hey Chris
I am sure you hear this all the time, but, I have listened to your song "Carry me (like a fire in your heart) like a zillion times before and really liked it, but it wasn't until recently that the words really captured me in a way like never before.
My mom passed away in February 2008, and now,as I listen to this song, it is as if it is consoling me in such a way I can not describe.
I now fully understand the pain in that lyrics
Your songs has been such a good friend for me through out my life. You sing what I feel, and even if I do not feel that right now, I am sure to know that one of these days it will have meaning.
Again thank you!!!!

Dear Chris De Burgh,
Thank you very much for believing in Iranians, I am glad that you had the heart to go and see for your self that persians are not like the mosters that foreign authorities present them outside of iran. And it's funny that here in the USA media takes their time to talk about the most stupid thing in the world, but they do not present anything about your trip to Iran in the news because they don't want Americans to know that americans can get along with iranians just fine. It's all politics, and I hate it. Why can't we all get along? why can't we forget politics and live together happily! I love your music and your voice, it gives me a strange comfort and I love it.
Thank you

Hi Chris!
How are you? I listened to the song "Noori Ta Abadiyat"(The Words I Love Yoy).
It was the best I have ever heard. Hope you collaborate with Iranian artists more than once!
I also have the album "Now And Then". No need to tell you that how many times I listend to it.
As we can see the lyrics of "lebanese Night", I thouhgt you may want to use this as the Lyrics of the song "The Words I Love You"
On "Other albums on which Chris de Burgh appears", the album "Without You, With Tou"
the third track:
you may want to modify it...

There are those who think that love comes with a lifetime guarantee,
But we know from those around us, that this may not always be,
It’s the simple things that come between a father and a son,
But when they try to talk, the knives are out before they have begun;
Well that was me, and I have seen the light that shines for eternity,
Because I learned to say the words “I love you;”
Bebin che ghalbhâyi shekastand, tooye daste roozegâr
Bebin cheshmhâyi ro ke gashtand, peye noori moondegâr
Az eshgho bâvar, bâyad ke âkhar, beshe labriz delhâmoon
Ye roozi har jâ, por beshe donyâ az tanine sedâmoon
Pas biâ bâ har zaboon, to ham bekhoon, bekhoon âsheghoone kenâram
Faryâd bezan begoo:"Doostet dâram"
And this endless road that we are on just keeps on going round,
But there’s one destination that always is here to be found;
So come with me,
Bâ man biâ
and you will see
to ham bebin
The light that shines for eternity,
Be strong and learn to say the words “I love you,”
Faryâd bezan begoo:"Doostet dâram"
The words “I love you,”
"Doostet dâram"
The words “I love you,”

My Dear Chris de Burgh,
I really love your songs, so you are my favorite singer. Actually number one in the world.
I know you are in Iran now and I'm very happy because of that. I want you to pay attention to something.
In Iran most of the people are so so. I mean the people of Iran are not very rich and not very pauper. And also I hear the cost of your concert's ticket is about one hundred dollars.
In this condition, a great deal of persons who are willing to visit you, won't be able to attend your concert. I'm sure if the ticket were in lower prices, more than 100 thousants people will attend your concert in Azadi Statium.
Of course, this is just a suggestion. And you know what to do the best. I hope you have a very good time in Iran. And remember Iran has more than 2500 years of culture and civilization.
Best Regards, Amir

Hi, Chris!
I had a fantastic evening yesterday in Vicar Street. Your appearance made it just perfect. I am so grateful that I could be there.
My husband Stefan, our daughter Tabea Siobhan and I just moved from Germany to Ireland, because of Stefan`s new job. He works for GS1 Ireland in Dublin now.
We live in Delgany. So Dublin is just around the corner. When I heard of "An Audience without Dermot Morgan" I just had to come.
I am so looking foreward to Bundoran. The only German concert we will be able to come to will be in Aachen.
I am looking foreward to meeting lots of friends from the mailing list there as well.
Siobhan (3 1/2 years old)was so disappointed she could not accompany me to Vicar Street. I told her, she will see you again in Aachen.
So thank you once again for taking part in a wonderful evening.
I wish the Dermot Morgan Foundation will be able to help many young commedians through the hard times at the beginning of their career.
God bless you!

Dear Chris,
My family and I immigrated to the United States when I was just a child during the Iranian Revolution of the late 1970s. I learned the English language listening to your music. Your stories of war and peace and love opened my imagination to the wonders of the world and the power of the spoken word. Your music has inspired me to a pursuit of writing and the arts ever since.
Your recent trip to Iran and your duet with the Arian Band brought tears to my eyes. Listening to the beautiful lyrics and the marriage of English and Farsi was poetic and moving.
I've always admired your work, but your recent decision to have a concert in Tehran and use your music to make a gesture of peace amongst people and cultures is beyond admirable. You are a truly noble artist, one who will leave your mark with all of your listeners forever. I only wish I had the opportunity to attend what will surely be a magical night in Tehran.
Thank you for all that you do and all that you are.

exceellent show and great band very intimate and good fun.
More fun for those of us avoiding the "camera police".Although i didnt take too kindly to being grabbed by the staff when i have paid so much money, but all this is put into perspective by comments from fans in Iran.I do hope that they get to see your concert and this is the first of many.

Hi Chris,
Thank You for writing and singing so interesting about Ireland. Your songs, the biography book and your website all describe it so well. In May we went to Dublin for a long weekend with Henrik and Patrik (20 and 17). The youngest finally visited the island of Saint Patric, his namesake. Patrik is a very common name in Sweden. An apartment near Christchurch Cathedral with much “home feeling” was a convenient location for “running around”. There were so much to see in Dublin and the surroundings. I will always remember Monasterboice with beautiful Celtic Crosses, Church Ruins and the Round Tower. It makes you think of “In A Country Churchyard.” We try to return soon to see more of this splendid city and beautiful nature/mountains. I bought “Now And Then” and “High On Emotion-The Collection” in Temple Bar. “Your” 29 cd albums and dvd:s have a special shelf in our house. They are frequently played. We are always keen on travelling, so I hope for more concerts this autumn. There were no chance of our coming to London in June. We look forward to see you in Aachen.
Many summer greetings from Maj-Britt

Chris
What a fantastic evening last night at the Pigalle Club in London was. We weren't sure what to expect as the venue was so different to any other. Well it was FANTASTIC. Standing at the back for four hours was well worth it! Such an intimate venue - one of your band said it was the smallest venue he had ever played and it was a bit of a squash on the stage wasn't it? One good thing about that was that Tony was in better view than usual!
Loved the new songs and excited about the film - the storyline sounds amazing. Hopefully it won't be too long before it comes to fruition.
Thanks again for an amazing evening - could you make it a regular event?
Looking forward to see you in Germnay we are counting the days to Hanau and Aachen.

Noori Ta Abadiat -Doset Daram to me represents the possibility for building a cultural bridge across the growing divide between Iran and the west. The marvelous history and culture of the Persian people has been so forgotten in the west as a result of the rhetoric and the severe policies of the revolutionary government. A nation that should be and could be a shining beacon of progress in the middle east has been reduced to a third world existence on the brink of unspeakable calamity because one hairy little man says he wants to destroy America and Israel. It is sooooo sad that insane people like this rise to power in any country. So in the midst of this insantiy, along comes the Arian Band and Chris De Burgh with a simple song about hope and a Light to Eternity - Doset Daram. Let us all hope and pray that the Mullahs ill allow Chris and Arian to perform together this year and that this is the beginning of a new revolution of hope and peace. If I can somehow get a visa, I would love to be a witness to this historic event!

Dear Chris,
what a month had been May 2008 with your visit in Iran. I have contact to some Iranian fans and can share with them the joy that you had been there for some days. We share photos and videos of the press-conference and it is very interesting to look a bit around the world where you actually are! Your fans in Iran are very nice fans Chris.
Three month now, before the summer-concerts in Germany I bought me a new car, that the journey will go well. Today I played the "Live in Dortmund" CD inside and more than the Now and Then album the memories to wonderful nights in this region where comming along to me. To discover you here was the best thing in my life!:)) And I am still happy about what you are doing all around the world at the moment.
Good luck for the planed concerts in Iran and I hope to see you in summer right in front of my eyes again. They days here are filled with so much joy to see you again.

Dear Chris,
Just heard of the news of your collaboratin with Arian Band.
I don't know how to put my feeling into words. Only let me resort to saying that you have alot of fans in Iran. We were raised duplicating your bootlegged songs and listening to them trying to figure out what you had to say in "Borderline" and "Spanish Train".
Wow...This is indeed a dream come true.
Counting the moments to see you perform in Iran.
Heartiest Regards,
HOOMAN ASKARY
