Hi Chris and Sophia,
I am just over reading the MOTL. You were talking about songs in 3/4 time. As my piano-teacher and I were working on "When Winter Comes", she said she thinks it is in 3/4 time. And when I look through the first notes we worked out now, it looks right in 3/4 time. By the way, Chris thank you a lot for your autograph in my piano-notes-book!:)) I'm still over it.
with love

Dear Chris!
It's always difficult to begin writing a letter when there are so many things to say that you are at a loss what to begin with.
Perhaps I should say that I am an English teacher from Russia, the very lucky one to get your signature at the Moscow concert and the very lucky one to perform several lines of "The Lady in Red" at the same concert with you on 9th March. Unforgettable memories! I hope it is not TOO late to share my impressions of the concert with you. Paraphrasing your words in the interview about the making of "The Road to Freedom", I have been wearing the letter to you like a coat for more than two weeks and now it is high time to put everything I have to tell you on paper (Will you forgive me for such a long preamble?)
The concert was a real WONDER and the memories of it don't let me for a moment and haunt me wherever I were and whatever I did. Although nearly 3 weeks have passed since that day I can truly say that I am still plunged into that atmosphere and won't get out of it. The atmosphere you have brought into the audience - very sincere, very homelike, very genuine - cannot be compared with anything.
Having been your constant admirer for about 15 years I've learned a great deal of the lyrics and have taught them my numerous students. Be sure that all of them are as perfect performers of "The Lady in Red", "Carry me Like a Fire in your Heart";, "Missing you", etc. as you could possibly imagine! "LEARN AND STUDY ENGLISH GRAMMAR WITH CHRIS DE BURGH" - that is our motto. Such difficult (for Russian students) grammatical phenomena as Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous have become so easy to comprehend with YOU (What about starting a school!?)! Your texts full of such vivid metaphors as "your arms is the only place I know where peaceful waters flow" and similes "Carry me like a fire in your heart" deserve to be analysed from the linguistic and poetical points of view.
You have always been with me: both in happiness and in deep sorrow. Dear Chris, you have turned out to be "the saviour of my heart", no more no less. Sometimes your songs gave me a clue as to what to expect next. How could I know that the plot of the song ("Snow is Falling") at the sound of which my heart would sink for many reasons: the power of your voice pierced with interminate desperation, the heartrending power of music, the very lyrics would become mournful reality for m. You gave me a sign I had been too late to become aware of. But you have helped me to overcome everything. Thank you for giving me consolation!
And one more thing which I hope would be of interest to you. I am from the town of Klin situated to the north-west of Moscow (88km). The name of the town is closely connected with the name of the great Russian composer P.I. Chaikovsky. It is here where he spent the most prolific years of his creative activity. I would love to see you among the visitors to Chaikovsky's world-famous house-museum and be your guide about it if you wish. Come and enjoy the touch of Russian music culture, it is worth doing, really, Russian hospitality and cuisine provided!
To crown it all, I should say that writing this letter to you is the most thrilling, exciting and at the same time complicated work I've ever done (my master's thesis doesn't count); it is about limericks, by the way. Have you ever written one, I wonder? But all jokes aside, thank you once again for everything you do so generously for people. God bless you!
Take care of yourself!
And welcome to Russia!
"We'll be waiting here for you!"
Love, Nell

Hi Chris,
Your music is a huge part of my life.
The moment I wake up, before I put on my makeup, I do a little jig to your music.
Not a day goes by when I don't listen to all of your albums over and over and over again and over.
I played lady in red at my wedding, then on my honeymoon me and my husband played ferryman while we made love.
I love you.

Dear Chris and fellow celebrators of Easter,

Christ is risen!!...He is risen indeed!! Alleluia!

Jesus came the first time to establish peace in the hearts of those who will believe in Him. He will come the second time to redeem those who believe, establishing eternal peace in a "new heaven and a new earth" Rev. 21:1a

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away." Rev. 21:4

Let us rejoice in His promises! Have a wonderful Easter and enjoy the Springtime and the hope that it bears.

Love,
Heather

Hi Chris

Hope you are well. Thanks for everything over 20 years of your fabulous music and storytelling. Over the years we have seen you in Bournemouth, Earls Court, the Royal Albert (a few times), The Birmingham Symphony Hall, the NEC and picnic concerts at Blenheim, Harewood (where my sister and I were lucky enough to meet you backstage..) and Alcester. So this year with no UK concerts planned we have had to get new passports and head for Denmark. See you in Esbjerg on the 10th April. Lots of love, Alison

Although we have about zero degrees here, there is beautiful blue sky with sunshine on this Easter morning.

Then I just felt like saying:

I hope you have a beautiful and wonderful Easter Day, filled with warmth and happy moments.

May they also give you inspiration for many more great "Storyman" songs.

"Live for the day" is wonderful gift.

Chris,

Not sure whether you ever actually read this guestbook, but i just wanted to say...

My dad use to love your music when I was younger - he use to blast out lonely sky, peaceful waters, ferryman, missing you, borderline and sailing away. As 'un-cool' as it was for me to have a dad to loving 'Chris de Burgh', we had some great times singing along in the car, and your music still stays with me today 15 years on.

I have 5-6 albums of yours and often think back to my younger days sitting in the back of my dads car. Those were great times and your music will probably stay with my dad for the rest of his life.

As for me, I have just started a family of my own. I love all of the new uk indie bands 'arctic monkeys' etc. so to like chris de burgh at my age is VERY, VERY UNCOOL. I personally though, don't care. I love your music and plan to blast it out in my car as my son gets older so that we can have the same sing-a-longs as I had with my dad.

Thanks for making such great records and being part of the soundtrack of my life.

Cheers. Simon.

Hello Chris,
I have many of your cd's wich I love and am always playing. I call your songs, "hart music", they make me go inside and listen to my hart. It is a wonderful gift that you have, and share with the world. If people every where would only listen to their harts, what changes we could make.
I have not yet been to a concert of yours, as you are not very often in Holland. I hope that this will change so that I, and many other may enjoy your music in person. It's not very far from Germany!

Dear Chris,

wow, great to hear a new song! It's so vivid and catchy, I like it very much :-))). Tina's great voice matches very good with your's, and it seems that you both have very much fun in singing together! The song really spends and spreads joy and remembers me on the worth of live.
After an impressive theater evening with similar theme these "news" made my day ending nearly perfectly... (thanks to a mail from my friend and long-term fan Nugie which "forced" me to have a look at cdeb.com ;-))

Dear Chris,

just back from a very, very impressive journey to St. Petersburg, this wonderful city with a special athmosphere and so different from that I have in my mind. So I would like to say thank you so much for a wonderful concert on March 7. I have seen a lot of your concerts during the years but this one was a very special experience to me. During the last weeks I get very cordially contact to russian fans from the mailing list via e-mail and we met at the concert. It was such a wonderful feeling to share the emotions of the concert with friends ( greetings to Anya and Oksana :-) ). And the highlight was when you came down from the stage to make the dancing part of your show working !!! I have seen so many lucky and bright eyes around me.
So I am looking forward to see you in Germany in August !

Take care and lots of greetings from Berlin

Dear Chris!

I want to say thank you for your concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg!

Concert in St. Petersburg was really great! Yes, really great!!! Thank you for that WHAT you have done during this concert! I guess, I felt your feelings a little bit... Well, it was moving for me to dance in front of the stage just at the very beginning of that dancing part!

Thank you for being so kind to take my flowers and the envelop... Well, it was unexpected for me when the lights turned off when I just walked upstairs and found myself on the stage. I really got lost standing there in the full darkness. Very good that at least I didn’t forget to say "thank you", as this situation with darkness put me out of order... :) Yes, your later comments - that you received the second letter during this concert to the ... (do not remember the word you said :)) ) lets say to the most wonderful man in the world – were funny. :))

Thank you very much for your concert in Moscow! It is always such a joy for me to be on your concert, to see you, to hear you singing, to feel the love that is going from your heart! It is really great when you are among us!

Well, these two concerts were so different... I have lots of different emotions in respect of them. I have even written two reviews like that one from Zurich...

Kind regards,

Anna Dolgikh

Hallo Storyman :-)

I don`t know, wheater you really read this. I`m nearly ashamed that I heard about this song so late. I must have slept for two years. The storyman, this is what I always have seen in you. Sometimes when I go to a store and looking for a cd, than I find your cd`s at the categorie pop/ rock. But this is not really what you are, cause there is always something other in most of your songs, something more than only pop and rock. And when I heard the sound of storyman and behind him the silent sound of middle age, I understood what you have always been. You are like a modern bard, in his dreams always going from town to towen, from castle to castle, always singing another story thats into your heart, and in every town you go, you get a new story, to tell it again at another place. The storyman, this is everything, this is the romantic, the rebel and also the pacifist(sometimes in a discrepance),the cynic, the mystic, this is maybe also the rock-singer, but this is only a smal, smal part of your person. Your whole soul is living in this song. The storyman ,that`s you.Stay like you are.

Greetings

Anja

How are you doing?

I'm just going to answer the question
that was at the end of your answer of
MOTL today (10/3/08 )

I would love to continue on the journey with you with a follow up
album of The Storyman.

I absolutley love The Storyman and as i've posted before i have a few favourites off the album...Grace Of A Dancer,.. The Shadow Of The Mountain... Raging Storm and Mirror Of The Soul. I remember hearing Grace of A Dancer on the radio WOW it really stood out to me it made me come out in goose pimples.

So it would be great to have a follow on to that album, (that's my opinion of course).

Take care Chris

Hello Chris,
It was very tempting to go to Russia or Turkey in addition to the other concerts we will attend. To meet spring and see your show in Denmark will be super. Your interesting songs always remind me of many different occurrences in human lives. The song Leningrad made me think of our own connection to Russia. My husband and children are related to the Czar family. A Russian man came here to restore a church after a fire, a long time ago. When the work was finished he stayed and married a girl here in Dalarna, our county. This Russian ancestor was a carrier of hemophilia. I´m grateful my husband and children don´t have the disease. Some other relatives have this blood clotting disorder. I am sure this forefather also added good factors to the genes.

Dear Chris, isn't it strange how some things happen, I've just read Chris Raymonds' question on MOTL and would you believe that only on Tuesday I took my Beautiful Dreams cd to work so that my job share partner(who it seems is also a fan of the "Big O") could hear the "In Dreams" track, her verdict, it was excellent, of course I would have been dissapointed to have heard anything different. I was interested to read Alison's MOTL and Chris' reply. My little boy is 7 and really keen on Go Kart racing and the first time he did it I was really anxious and frightened. He loved it. But what is really ironic is that you can't wrap them up in cotton wool as Chris said and only last week my little boy went to the loo and trapped his little finger in the door resulting in having an operation to sew the tip back on. I watch him play football, tag rugby, gymnastics, biking and karting and have my mouth in my hands and then something trivial like going to the toilet results in an injury!!

Good luck, Chris on your tour and look forward to seeing you in the UK soon. x
