Dear Chris,

Just dropping by to wish your son Michael a Happy Birthday! In fact he has grown into an adult! I suppose it must be kind of a very emotional and strange feeling for you to realize all your three children now legally ceased to be minors and assume control over their persons, decisions and actions. Therefore they apparently terminate the legal control and legal responsibilities of their parents over and for them. All the years you have passed your experiences down to them, you brought them up and you gave them special care and attention, but now they experience the real test of life, the world from a first-person standpoint instead of through the parents.

Well, I can only comfort you from my point of view, from the child's point of view, that most likely it's just as particularly hard for the children as it seems for you. I think it would be a cliché trying to generalize only the parents fear the process of detachment. Although it appears most children can hardly wait to attain the age of majority it's after all the period of time during which you encounter a number of emotional issues caused by a number of biological changes etc. "Storm and stress" is obviously a normal part of this period. Sometimes the children cover their fear and intenseness with precocity and cynical wit, whereas actually they are unsure and might be feeling forlorn. Unsure to be guarded and planned for; forlorn, to be cheered and mothered. Some are seeking for the shadow of firm ground on which to stand, to not get only deceived, when you feel it warps away like a heat mirage; looking towards a landfall and the wind blows it away... Learning facts or theories or languages does not have anything to do with understanding yourself.

Dear Chris,
I just saw a video for the new album:
I am really happy that there will be some songs I loved in my youth like "American Pie", "Africa","Where are all the flowers gone" and especially "Without You". Once in the past the only way to hear them had been the radio and I remember very happy days with my past friends to these songs, the really not so good steps of learning to play guitar from the boys here in the streets. With the time everything had changed in friendships and we never saw us again through studying and learning in different town, but it had been an interesting time in music for me too.
I'm sure you did "Where are all the flowers gone" the right way. And the most I love after the first impressions to your new album is, that you sing "Without You". Some weeks ago just this song was in my mind, when the time of the last summer was gone with all your concerts and I was wondering why I had this song and "The Long And Winding Road" always in my mind. Chris, what a surprise that you recorded them this year!:)))) And thank you for talking about Bargy Castle, the experience there, what I once found through Chris High's website. Chris, you were always on my mind, you were always on my mind.

I feel very honoured to find my concert-reviews published, although I´m really surprised about publishing my report from Hanau. The concert I´ve never attended (not really...)!!

(Hey Astrid, did you like to make people believe that listening to Chris´ music is addictive and makes his fans wacky??)

And it is a bit of a pity that you didn´t publish Lore´s review of Kloster Eberbach (although I´m proud that you´ve chosen mine...). I still adore her idea to ask Chris for a song without the microphone. It must have been very thrilling for her when the request became fulfilled and I like how she tells about this. I´ve asked her to tell this story in the little non-professional radio-station of Wiesbaden (near Kloster Eberbach), if anyone is interested, you can re-listen here (it´s in german language):

I had the pleasure of seeing your concerts in Johannesburg in 1979 and
1993 and Cape Town in 1996.The first song of yours I heard was Lonley Sky in late 1976 - and when I went to buy "Spanish Train and other stories"at our local store they hadnt even unpacked it - but I got it anyway
- even before the album got banned!The best storyteller ,but more so,all your songs are so connected to life and its that that makes them special!Happy 60th birthday!I did have the pleasure of meeting you at the Sandton Sun lobby in 1993 and I treasure that moment,although as I recall I was overwhelmed and made a slight fool of myself.

Chris...I can't thank you enough for your wonderful songs. They have helped me get over losing a very special and lovely woman who ended our relationship. I desperately want her back...if she reads this she'll know...she would play your Now and then album as she said it reminded her of me. When she broke us apart she told me to listen to 'the best that love can be' to express her feelings at the end.
You have helped me through this difficult period in my life and listening to the albums 'Now and Then' and also 'Timing is Everything' helps me to remember her. i don't want to forget her and in a way these 2 albums help me so well.
