Dear Chris,
I reckon I am going to be lynched for saying this but I cannot credit myself as being your biggest fan, I havent bought every album. However at some stage in my early teens I was brought by my mother to see you play at the point/ maybe RDS. That was about 16ish years ago. Anyway, unfortunatley my mother has since passed away which meant a clear out of all the letters, bags, tapes that she kept. among the tapes was cliff, s&g, everleys and a copy of 'Flying Colours'. It took me the best part of a week to find a cassette player in North Kildare. So with a glass of pinot grigio I sat down and had a listen. The memories of sing songs and parties came flooding back. I found myself crying like a small child to 'Carry Me'. I had to check the copyright of that song because I thought I had written it at some stage in the past 2 years. So while I cannot guarantee that I will be your no. 1 fan, that album alone has six women from Mayo,Maynooth and Chester travelling to Birmingham for a good auld sing song and a cry in November.
"We live and die, we laugh and we cry"
Many thanks for an unexpected memory.

I grew up in Germany and I love CdB's music. I saw him in concert twice and it was incredible. But the american's don't know him. "Lady in red" is the only song some of them are familiar with, which is propably the only song that I can do without.
What is the problem with Chris succeeding over here?
Another reason I'm grateful for the Internet.
Can't wait for the new album, Kerstin

Good day Chris,
My story started when I was 14th used to live in a Syrian town and I got a cassette from a friend with a remark stated? this is a good one?. That album made my start in collecting your albums one by one which easily can be found in every music shop in Syria, but I could never ever dare to think that what happened can be happen at that time.
The wind blow my life and took me to Dubai city since six year, last year I met a girlfriend last year who became my fiancé now, she booked two tickets on last march 2nd to a party that can be called a moment of life. Yes it happened Mr. Chris & I met you in one of the best parties ever Dubai had, please accept my apology cause I were so selfish & made you return to the stage three times screaming ?we want more??, I believe that you can understand what the meaning of ?waiting 14 years to see the best singer playing, not only it was a ONE MAN SHOW?. Mr. Chris I have completed one of my life?s favorite objectives.
See you again,

Dear Chris de Burgh!
Many years ago we played in our accordeon-orchestra "The snows of New York". In fact it was the first time I came in contact with your music.
Now I'm 25 years old and I love good music - such music like you make. In November I'll join your concert here in Munich. And I'm looking foward anxiously to that.

It was 20 years ago when I first heard your album the Getaway and your songs still bring back memories that were good/bad over the years, it was my best friend mother that used to listen to you day in and day out and she had her ups and downs but the music always seem to calm and make her happy. Hi Chris,
now we got as "teaser" already some soundclips and the lyrics of three songs of the single - and wow!!! Superb!! But still many weeks to wait patiently until the album release in October... I'm really looking forward.
The lyrics of the "Storyman" made me smile, great! And this reminds me of the fun we had some years ago on the mailing list, when members were encouraged to write short stories containing titles of your songs.
Thank you for your music and that you are still not "tired" of writing/recording new songs and especially going on tour again and again...
Best wishes

Oh Chris,
what a TV-appearance on Michael Schanze's show (German TV - ARD) last Saturday evening! Thank you very much for singing incredibly emotional.
Your new ballad "The Shadow Of The Mountain" is full of longing/yearning. I love it. "Last night - I dreamed again that I was by your side, I felt your tender kiss and your lips on mine... When the summer wind begin to blow that is when..." You are right - this is a story and I can see the film in front of my eyes.
I know - this unique song will be worth it - to buy your new album in October. I look forward to it. Thank you for this new song.

Hi Chris,
this is a PS to my earlier message concerning the song "The Shadow of the Mountain". I guess the girl / woman you refer to in the song died in an eruption of the volcano "Vesuvius" and her lover - the singer - still dreams of meeting her alive in the shadow of the mountain, respectively meets her there in "his" reality as he has loved her so much. But how does this go together with mentioning "Cesar's men" an "the war"? I think Cesar himself died about 100 years before this? Well this is not MOTL, it just makes me think!

Hi Chris,
I just watched your TV performance on the Michael Schanze Show in Germany and I LOVE the new song called "The Shadow of the Mountain", I believe - the one taking place in Rome. What a strong song, it is like a film or could be a song in a musical, and it is very moving indeed! I can't wait to listen to the "Storyman" album all over again. And the bits of the new single "One World" I could listen to so far sound great to me, it's a real "world music song" to my mind. Wow! Can hardly wait for the rest of the album.
Looking forward to your concerts in November and December, xx Sibylle
PS.: What a pity you did not get the chance to talk about your new songs on that show – I like "Lady in Red", but that was 20 years ago ;-)

Dear Chris,
I stayed at your castle in 1979 with my Uncle Frank. Your father was there at the time, and he gave us a wonderful tour, and talked about the castle history, most of which I forgot. He showed us signed copies of your album, "Far Beyond these Castle Walls," one of which I purchased and still have. I also walked the grounds around the castle and the cows came up to say hi to me. We had dinner in the dining room, then played snooker in the basement. Is the snooker table still there?
I tell people about Bargy Castle all the time, and they always ask me if it is still an inn open to the public. Do you still let people stay there, or is it now a private residence? Either way, I am grateful for your family's hospitality during my stay at your beautiful castle.

Hi Chris.
My husband and I have been fans for many years now and have seen you perform live on several occasions. The last concert we saw was at the Bridegwater Hall, MAnchester. Our son and daughter are also great fans. We have a four year old grandson, Michael, who saw you at the Bridgewater Hall and loved every minute. He's coming with us to Birmingham NEC in Novemebr as part of his 5th birthday celebrations. He has his own albums and often goes to sleep listening to your songs. He has an amazing memory - imagine a 4-year old singing 'Brother John' whilst visiting the local garden centre! Please could you say hello to him at the NEC?(Michael Gaskell - his birthday is 4th Nov).

Hey Chris,
Its been a long time since we've met. You were putting on a show in Seattle at a club just north of the airport there back in the real early 80's.
You've done well since then, but I haven't heard much of you in the US for a few years. I still listen to your music and enjoy it.

Dear Chris,
Yesterday (Sunday) it was quite a dark and rainy day, so I snuggled up on the sofa and watched the tremendous video of your solo concert "Benefit for Volendam" in 2001 after a long time again. It's such a great recording, especially when I listen to you singing the song "Without you" I always get goose bumps. This song is only such beautiful when YOU sing it because the way you do it is extraordinary. You actually introduced me to this tune, I hadn't known it before. So, for me it's one of your songs and whenever I hear it on radio or whatever I think, "you actually do sing it better ;-) !!!".
I remember very well, this was actually my very first video tape of you and the first time I watched you on TV. At the beginning of my summer school holidays in 2002 I got it and I have loved it so much that I took it with me everywhere, for example when I went on holidays to my grandmother and relatives. Really, I've been watching it countless times.
In fact my grandmother have had to "suffer" a lot from your music! At warm summer evenings we used to sit out on the terrace and I took the little cassette recorder with us, so we could listen to music outside. I can tell you, the whole quarter certainly was able to hear your voice, for I turned up the sound to the limit and got anything it could give out of the little recorder from my grandmother. You know, it was always quite funny, once I even climbed up such sort of pallets which a forklift truck uses and was singing with a garden hose in my hands ;-). Fortunately she lives a little off, so that not too many people live in the direct neighbourhood.
That was four years ago, you know, for me it's a long time, from 15 years old to 19 it's actually a lot..............
All this and much more came to my mind while watching your video, funny, isn't it?
With all my love,
Julia
P.S.: Hopefully you will get my letter quite soon, it actually has a long journey behind it. You shall see then.

Hi Chris, Ive heard occasionally how you sometimes have met people after a concert to perhaps sign a cd or perhaps have a photo. how do you select who to have come to meet you? I know that at the end of a concert you have a tight scedual(and you are proberly very tired). If your fans send you pictures do you sign them and send them back to them? I would love to have a reply to this question Chris if you have a spare minute or two.We are looking forward to your concert in November at the NEC in Birmingham hope you and your family are well.Best wishes Wendyxx

Dear Chris,
A few weeks ago while updating my music library I came across the song
"Lebanese Night" which I had never listened to before,& which I must have downloaded years ago by mistake while searching through 'Napster' 4 Lebanese music by the singer 'Fairuz'!!!
I was totaly blown away by the song & its lyrics,& also by the voice of the featured singer on the song Elissa!!!
Needless 2 say,it took me a while searching the internet for the artist behind the song,& I was truly surprised when I found out that it was one of your songs!!!
I have bought & downloaded every version of that song that I could find,& have been listening to it constantly for the past 2 weeks, for it touches my heart,as I watch the recent war in Lebanon,me being an American of Lebanese heritage!!!
I'm not sure as to why u wrote this song,& regardless as to ur reasons,I just would like to thank u for writing such a beautiful song!!!
God Bless U...

Hi Chris,
Re, MOTL. 4th August.
Your answer to a question regarding your favourite season promted me to remark about springtime in Ireland.
As you know my husband and I recently spent some time holidaying in Ireland and the UK.
We were in Ireland during late spring, fortunately just missing out on the record rainfall that Ireland had experienced.
The weather fined up and we were able to do many walks in the countryside.
What stands out in my mind are the Bluebells growing in vast amounts throughout the woodlands, they had peaked, but were still very impressive in their display.
The sounds and smell of sringtime were everywhere, I just loved it.
Your Country is very beautiful and I will aways have happy memories of our visit there.
Best Wishes,
Julia.

Hi. I would like to say that one of the best songs and lyrics of Chris de Burg is the mentioning the time of departure, a seperation of two lovers in Paris. Its title is "A rainy night in Paris..." If you haven't discovered it yet, i recommnd you to do listen to it anyhow...
best wishes from bunax

Hi Chris,
I read your statement on MOtL yesterday (August 1st) and truely admire you for actually taking a stance, and speaking out on this terrible 'war' that is going on between Israel and the Hezbolla based in Lebanon.I only hope that your statement can be of some small comfort to the Lebanese fans. I watch the terrible things that are happening right now in Lebanon, and read and hear that over 1/3rd of the fatalities are children. Poor, small, 100% innocent children, who have done nothing wrong and most who probably do not even know what 'war' is. It really breaks my heart soo much, to hear that so many children are being killed. As you know, I absolutely adore kids, and have worked with them for over 30 years now, and they really are such sweet innocent souls. I watched the news on TV this evening and see that it is getting even worse now. When will all this evil ever stop ?
Only last year Stewart and I watched a very interesting programme on one of the cable TV stations, about how Lebanon and especially Beirut had been rebuilt after the last conflict. It appeared to be such a beautiful place then, and now less than a year after that TV programme, it has been totally devastated again. What a terrible shame. In my eyes, war solves nothing, it only kills the innocent people, the women and the children, and also men who are trying to live their normal lives, but never the 'top men' who cause the damm war in the first place.
Every night we watch and listen to such bad news on the TV, more and more people are killed in Iraq every day, and now in The Lebanon/Beirut and Israel. What the hell is this world coming to ? Oh how true the words of 'Lenanese Night' are right now. We could only imagine what it must be like to go to bed with the sound of a gun etc.......
Please take care of yourself and family,
love and hugs as ever,
Chris......thebluehealer xxXxx

Dear Chris,
I just have seen your words about the fights there in Lebanon and remember the evening, when you were here performing this song. Now the line you mentioned is deeply filled with the pictures of this what really happens there in these days and I must say it is hard to dance for me to a song, which reminds me to the dying of people wherever they live, really it is. The first time, when I heard your song, I always understood "...and the drums...", not guns and the hell in the song was in this town comming over me, that was the reason for my question to you.
I am glad that I found it out, about what this song from you is in reality now and like in the years before, when I could feel with the civil people in Irak, being involved in a war than or the people in the World Trade Center,I would like to stop the fights there, where they are. Maybe it is not possible, but I wish them all peace again in their countries. I am only a small woman, who writes this to you, with some roses and a funny story, but I was sure the last days, that you like me don*t close your eyes about the things which are going wrong in the world.

Dear Chris
Thankyou from the bottom of my heart for speaking out on today's MOTL about the horrible war in Lebanon.
As you put it so right, it's a aggression between Israel and the Hezbollah, but it's the innocent people in Lebanon who suffer the most from the Israeli bombs.
I honour you openly taking position and not keeping quiet for longer.
I'm sure it means a lot to your Lebanese fans to know that your feelings are with them.
kind regards
Tina

Dear Chris,
today I read the letter you wrote for MOtL.
I have the same feelings about this situation. My son Dominik even asked me every day, why they are still fighting and what the future will bring. He is only ten ears old, but he knows that he has the fortune to grow up in a peaceful land.
We all still hoping that the war(although THEY don't call it war, it is) will be stop soon.
See you in November on "Storyman-Tour".
Greetings
