Hello Chris
In 1982 I met a person,Walid, who became my best friend. We lived in Beirut during the war.He introduced me to your music, I loved it. We used to spend hours playing chess listening to you songs while the bombs are all around us.One of our flag songs was TAKING IT TO THE TOP. We wanted to succeed and have a good life regardless of the war. In 1985 I had the chance to leave Beirut to come to Canada. So I left and never been back. We stayed in touch as long as possible but we drifted and there was a long pause. In 2004 Walid came to visit the USA and I met him at the border, it was out of this world. After 20 years we met. And he said that he is coming to Canada in 2005 and he did. WE spent a whole month together. Do you know what we did, we played Chess, listened to Chris De Burgh's songs that we shared then and still love and listen to now, songs that helped us Take it to the TOP. You inspired us and still do.
I already have your tickets for Nov 11 in Toronto, he might come back for the concert, can you imagine the two us watching you live in concert.

Nick

Dear Chris,

Just wanted to tell you where I have been this afternoon... I was in Schwäbisch Hall (marketplace). A few moments I sat down on the church's stairs and enjoyed simply the beautiful (old) houses and the sun. The memories... It seems that you leave your footprints everywhere. :-)

Love and missing you, Gerlinde.

P.S. Take care, it's such a lonely sky.

Hi Chris, congrats to liverpool on winning the supercup, in Hull we are feeling just the same after Hull F.C. won the rugby league challenge cup in Cardiff, we waited 23 years for it to come back to us and it has been hailed as the best cup final ever!!! I received trtf dvd for my birthday last week, it was lovely to see your solo show again, although I thought the german fans didn't show the emotion and passion that we encountered in Harrogate, still it does mean that I can now watch anytime I want to - I especially love the interview, you speak so beautifuly and have a very unassuming nature, Have a lovely birthday in October, your gift has gone off in the post, so it should be with you in plenty of time, hope you like it.
Lots of love, Pauline XXX

Dear Chris,
this is Sabine from Germany. I`m 30 years old and live in a little village called Rotzel. I´m sure you have never heard this name because Rotzel is very small. So you won´t find it on a map.The nearest town is Laufenburg.Do you know Laufenburg at the "Hochrhein"? There is Laufenburg in Germany and Laufenburg in Switzerland and the river "Rhein" is the border between them. Napoleon Bonaparte divided the town Laufenburg in the peace-treaty of Lunéville in 1801. So there are two towns with the name "Laufenburg".
But now it´s enough with the trip into history. I´m a very big fan of your beautiful music and of you, of course. I was at your concert in Basel on June 14th,2004. I was very nervous and excited to see you live on stage because I have only seen you on T.V. before. It was a great experience to see you so close, listen to your songs, sing your songs. Thank you so much for this beautiful evening and thank you for your lovely songs which help me through the daily life.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!!
God bless you and all the best wishes and lots of love to you and your family from Sabine

Dear Chris,
your concert in Killarney last week was absolutely fantastic! I believe it was the longest solo show of yours I have ever been to – without any break and not even the lights being dimmed in between ;-) Hope you will play more concerts in Ireland in the future, the fans there are the best singers in the world, and be sure that a bunch of crazy Germans will be there again as well. Thanks for a great weekend, xx Sibylle

Dear Chris,

I hope, you can enjoy your leisure and you can relax
a little bit after so many concerts.
I was lucky to attend some of your concerts in
Germany and each of them was very special.
The best open air which I visited this year was Bonn,
I think, because the ceiling of the pavillon kept
the singing of the audience more present than an
open air venue without roof. What an atmosphere, it
was really a party!
The concert in Schwetzingen was great, too. I won't
forget. I met some friends from the South of Germany,
and we were very happy to be right in front of the
stage at the end of the concert. We had a lot of fun
dancing, clapping, screaming...
You often looked down to your fans and you gave us a
smile several times when you saw us laughing, maybe you
remember?
At the end of your medley walk I had the chance to make
some photographs from you together with my friend: You
went up the stairs back to the stage when you saw me
with my camera and my friend climbing the first two steps
to get closer to you for the photo. Then you stopped going
up to smile just into my camera. Thank you that you
wait these two seconds on the stairs to make these photos
possible. They are wonderful and a nice souvenir.
My friend sent the photos to you. She will
be very happy if you can sign them. Thanks so much.
Perhaps there will also be a chance for me in future to get
a photo together with you. I have attended more than 20
concerts for the past three years.

Please come back to Germany soon, keep things going and have a relaxing time now in Ireland.
All the best for you and your future projects.

With all my respect and admiration

Believe it or not, but the first time i kissed the girl that i already loved one year was the night she wore a red dress on chris' song... it's like my dream came true. Maybe it's destiny, maybe not. We'll never know, but i'm as happy as the day i was born...

Hi Chris,

I've been meaning to verify details of your upcoming concert in Montreal for a while now and stumbled on this website. I just couldn't stop myself from reading the guestbook. Reading through some of these notes forced me to make some calculations...

I can't remember which of your song I heard first but I was a teenager and the Spanish Train album was very popular. Back in 1975ish. Ouch, that was 30 years ago! Since then I have bought many albums, went to many of your concerts. In fact, the first time I saw you at the Forum in Montreal, we had bought tickets for the whole family; my sister, my mom & dad. We were (still are!) big fans, Mom more than any of us. Murphy being at work, Mom fell sick the day before the concert and could not join us. I'll never forget her sadness, she reminds us every time you are back in town and we have to go again :) It will apparently never make up for missing the first concert! We are grateful that you like Montreal.

Over the years I have bought some of your most 'obscur' albums (I own "Far Beyond these Castle Walls" LP version) I remember looking at the picture and thinking "One day I will go there and see it with my own eyes". I'd picture myself living in such a castle! I probably didn't even know where Ireland was on a map. Many years later, my 2nd trip to Europe, we (Mom & I) landed in Belfast, drove through Derry, west coast, Mayo, south, Galway, East, Athlone, Dublin, South again, Waterford, Cork and left the emerald Isle from Shannon. Beautiful memories. We did sleep in a castle! One of the few souvenirs I brought back was the CD 'Beautiful Dreams', which I must have paid twice the price than if I would've bought in Montreal but I just had to bring it from Ireland:)

It would be difficult to name my favorite song, there are just so many, One for every mood. "Bordeline" is probably the one that would win on most days. But also 'Tonight", "Lonely Sky", "Much more than this". "Spanish Train" & "Patricia the Stripper" are my classics.. Lately I have been listening to 'Blong Hair, blue jeans' (This way up) but there are 100 more!

Thanks to you for your music & your words. Music is the most international language and can bring peace and calm in the worst war.

Looking forward to see you again for the Nth time in Montreal in November. Mom and I will be 'au rendez-vous', listening carefully to each and every note, word and emotion.

With lots of tenderness,
Nathalie

I have some questions.first of all I want to know is it possible for you to sing a song is persian language..i mean at least some words in persian language in a song .these days many international artists have sung a song in our language like turkish or american singers.of course their music in not as beautiful as your music at all..but you may know your popularity and credit in iran is very strong and you are like a iranian artist for me! because I have grown up with your music since 1990.and I think just a beautiful song in persian language will complete your popularity in iran. i think it will be so easy for you..you can come to iran .why not?!..even in England so many iranian people are living that love you music, you can talk with them about lyrics or everything else aboat this purpose. ..in the end me and some of your fans in tehran want to invite you to our country and city as a special artist for visiting and promote our music industry. It will be such a honor for us...i know you don't like to come to iran because of our islamic regime but be honest . they don’t care about you when you come for visiting and greeting with your fans and our musicians and not because of a concert ..most of them(islamic governors) don't even know you , so you can come like many musicians and artists such hollywood actor sean penn who came to tehran as a reporter nad met some of our governors..so it is seay.no?.. please accept our invitation because I swear it is absolutely possible..thank you for regarding me dear chris …with love and honor for you and your family...babak

Hi Chris

Can I just congradulate and thank you for the fantastic concert you performed in Killarney on August 20th.
It was my first ever Chris De Burgh concert and i had no idea what to expect. Having sat in the front row just a few feet away from you and been in the comapny of your fantastic friends from Germany, it was just amazing. I was nervous and shaking before you came on stage, I was just all tied up "high on emotion" so I was.

I think it was just great that you performed in Ireland again and it was fantastic to see a superb response and reaction from the fnas and audience that gathered to see it. Regarding the Irish media, I would just do what you do best, ignore it like you have done for the past years. I hope that the experience in Killarney will give you that bit of inspiration to come to Ireland again sometime perhaps even to Dublin. Thank you once agin, it was a night of a lifetime, for me anyway.

I must also thank you for shaking my hands at the end o the concert at the edge of the stage. I won't forget that.

"Peace and goodwill to all men". Many many thanks for years and years of stunning music and sheer entertainment. You were brought to my attention at the age of four by my brother and I thank him for that too.

Best wishes Chris. Have a great tour in Canada. I'm going there on holiday next month but its a pity I won't be there for your tour.

P.S. Hello to the crowd from Germany who were sitting beside me a teh tour in Killarney! I was wearing the Chris De Burgh "Timing Is Everything" tee- shirt with the Canadian flag on the back. You were great comapny. Hope to see you soon.

Andrew.

hi Chris,
my first ever guestbook entry here.

THANK YOU for giving us girls the reason to spend a fantastic holiday in Ireland (my first there but surely not the last) with your concert being - beside the stunning Irish landscape - the highlight of our trip.

Thank you for the most brilliant concert in Killarney!!! To me THE BEST of this year, although Bonn had been the biggest party so far.

It sent shivers down my spine to hear the Irish audience singing every line of your (older) songs. I think *that* made the concert so special and very different from the shows in Germany. I even didn't miss the band *g*

How about doing more concerts in Ireland? We'll surely be there again too :-)

greetings, Tina from Germany

Dear Chris,

I recently saw you on Songs of Praise broadcast from Blenheim Palace and really liked the song you performed. It was so good to see a high profile performer singing publicly from the heart about his personal relationship with God. Just a few days ago when on holiday with my brother in Devon we were talking about great ballads and your name immediately came up in the conversation. We both said how much we loved your hit ‘Lady in Red’. We happened to be staying at the time in the house of some friends of ours who sent all their children to Marlborough and are also avid fans of your music.

We were talking about music at the time as I have decided to record a CD in the next few months as means to raising money for my Bosnian girlfriend to come over to the UK to study at University (please find her testimony below). The idea for this project was birthed a few months ago during a singing lesson with my coach Robin Martin-Oliver. For the past year and a half I have been having lessons locally with Robin, a professional opera singer. He has consistently encouraged me to take my voice more seriously. When I mentioned making a CD for fundraising he thought it was an excellent idea. I believe God is awakening this gift within me and at 29 years old I am determined to explore it fully. Once the CD has been produced through a local sound studio I am planning on marketing it through family, friends and churches and see how much can be raised to assist Asja (The tuition fees for a non-EU national are £8,000 p/a). My preferred genre of music is musical theatre, light opera and ballads. My brother suggested singing ‘Lady in Red’. I have never sung it before and realise that I would need your permission to do so. At the moment I lack good backing music and have not explored all the implications of copyright in its production. Any advice, suggestions you have would be hugely appreciated. Thank you so much for considering this email.

I look forward to hearing from you. God bless you richly.

Warm regards,

Mark Powys-Smith

TESTIMONY:

“Asja (Mujaèiã), is 20 years old and lives in Tuzla, Bosnia. She left with her family on the last commercial bus out of Srebrenica in 1992 before Serbs occupied the town. As a family they settled in Tuzla and lived under the rain of grenades for months. The family decided to try and leave Bosnia for neighbouring Croatia early on during the war. Due to the pressure on places in the bus only Asja and her Grandmother managed to get a place. They were transported to a refugee camp in Varaþdin, Croatia where they lived for 4 years. Asja did not see her family again until 1995 when they returned to Tuzla. In spite of the upheaval of the war she managed to complete her secondary education. In 2001 her mother heard of the opportunity to send Asja to a summer International Gathering in Croatia called ‘Renewing Our Minds’ (making reference to Romans 12:2) for young potential Balkan leaders. Her mother thought it would be a great chance for Asja to practice her English. The speakers at the gathering were public figures from the world of politics, journalism and civil society organisations who all have a living relationship with Jesus. Through workshops and activities the speakers engaged with the young people from every diverse ethnic and religious group from across the region and challenged them with the teachings of Jesus to be people who love their enemies and build bridges in divided communities. Asja’s worldview was shaken as she explored the claims of Jesus to be the Son of God. Towards the end of the gathering in the summer of 2001 Asja decided to surrender her life to Christ. Over the course of her continuing involvement in the summer (‘Renewing Our Minds’) gatherings in Croatia from 2001-2004 her desire to be used by God to make a difference in her native Bosnia has grown. Following a short stay in the UK last autumn she decided to apply for a place at University as a step towards being equipped to return to Bosnia to assist in the reconstruction and restoration of her land. She was accepted on to a BA course at Oxford Brookes University to study International Relations at the end of September this year. Having visited the university and attended St Aldate’s church she is excited by the opportunities for her to grow mentally and spiritually in Oxford. Her vision is to return to Bosnia after graduation in 2008 and either assist an international organisation, NGO in their efforts to heal the deep wounds in Bosnia caused by war or actually set up her own community project works. Being a non EU national from Europe’s lowest income (per capita) country a group of her friends in the UK have committed to research all possible avenues of support for her. Any money donated for the further education of Asja would be channelled through the Penny Trust, (Registered Charity Number: 265887) of which the trustees are Anthony Cordle, Luli Orchard and Jessica Green. The funds of the trust are dedicated “for the charitable Christian purposes in such shares and manner that the trustees in their discretion see fit”. The Trust has a history of facilitating the education of young adults from Central and Eastern Europe and the developing world in the UK and US”.

Hi dear Chris,

Somethimes you hear a song for the first time and it's like love at first sight. It happend to me when i was listening to "live in Dortmund".

You know it wasn't mine intention to buy that cd, because howe many cd's must one have before you say enough is enough, but my brother bought it for me. So i was listening to " up here in heaven" and fall in love. What a great song and fantastic lyrics. I was really surprised that you wrote the song in 1994 because the lyrics are still of present interest. There's so must news about wars and terrorism, people fighting in name of there God, that i just want to say one thing......there is only one God, the God of the world!!!.

Keep singing your songs Chris.

We hope to see and hear you soon.

Big kiss

Hello Chris,

I've just seen your answer to the question about "Little angel" and it is a very bad experience that all countries in the world could make in the past, in some cases and in wars for shure. I respect that you tried to tell the murder the feeling of the parents about a song.

One thing makes me think about how to forget the dead and bring a good life back to this family. I made the experience when someone of my family died many years ago. It is real that we could hear them talking and saw them in the room again for a long time. But they must have their rest and we too.
So I tried to change the whole room with colors on the walls and songs from you which bring in the happiness of the life before with all them and that was it what made the bad experiences gone and a new life could begin in this room again. The most important song during this changing time has been "Satin green shutters". There is all the love in which a family can share together.

God bless you

Monika

Dear Chris,
Finally I have found some time to say a big 'thank you' for making our 2 week summer holiday in Germany so memorable and brilliant !! Ok, it was somewhat stressful at times, as we were 'on the road' alot of the time and living out of a suitcase. This is one thing I cannot get the hang of very well...........maybe I need some lessons on how to pack less and how to live out of a suitcase better than I can manage right now ;-) you see I always found that whatever I wanted was somehow always at the bottom of my case :-(( !!
But the benefits of these 2 weeks far out weighed any problems that we might have encountered.

In just 15 days I/we drove over 3,000 kilometers and all on 'the wrong side' of the road for me ;-) And I never got even one scratch on the car...thankfully !!!

The 13 concerts we attended were all superb and as usual even under bad weather conditions you put on a 100% professional show. But oh gosh, it was sooooooo cold in Nordkirchen (just like in Cheimsee last year !!) and sooo wet in Hannover, Weissenburg and Mainz.

It was also great to meet up with old friends again and have so many good times and laughs with new folk as well. We had so many laughs with Sibylle, Andrea, Konni and Jacquline. To be sure, laughter is one of the best medicines anyone can have , and did we have a laugh, especially on a couple of evenings after the shows !!

Thanks to your goodself, Stewart and I continue to enhance our knowledge of the people and places of Germany...even the small places that seem to be in the middle of nowhere !! like Weissenburg, which by the way was such a beautiful place, as I'm sure you will have also discovered, if you had time to walk around the town. The venue is Schwetzingen was beautiful with its lovely castle and beautiful gardens, and the weather was just so lovely that night. The Erwitte Schloss Hotel was also another very pretty place ;-)

The Bochum show in our opinion was one of the best, second only to Bonn !! The show was just sooo intimate as the stage was sooooo low:-))))))))))))) and the audience was brilliant and also the weather. Gosh we got sooo hot waiting for that concert to begin.....but it was well worth the long wait in the heat..that night will be remembered for ages in our memories.

Another pretty town was Mainz, especially walking down by the river and around the Domplatz itself. It had been such a lovely sunny day, that it came as a bit of a shock when it started raining so heavily about 2 hours before the concert, and never really stopped until near the end of the show. It was for Stewart and I such a shame that that was to be our last night...and it turned out to be so cold and wet.

The only one thing I did not like much on the whole tour was the height of most of the stages..they always seemed to be so high, and for me, that is a barrier to the 'energy' that usually bounces from you to the audience and back again to you.

It never stops surprising me the amount of gifts people give you on most nights!! You sure are a lucky bloke !!

Gosh those 2 weeks went by soooo quickly, i wish we could live them again, say starting next weekend ;-) then we could enjoy it all again !! ah well I can but dream !! It is surprising how quickly we slipped back into reality and the 'work mode' once we arrived home, and suddenly it seems that 'the tour' was ages ago :-(((

Ah well, only 2 more weeks of work until the next concert in Killarney..thank goodness this one is on a Saturday night, so no need to have any time off work !!!

Once again, thanks for a great 2 weeks.......well if we had not done 'the tour' we would only have been lazing on some sandy beach somewhere ;-) and to me there is no competition ........you win everytime ;-)

take care and best wishes from Stewart and myself, and please never stop writing your superb songs and singing them the way you do.
Love and hugs,
Chris

Dear Chris,

yesterday I accompanied my family to the "Gassenfest" (= a little village - five stages - music just for everybody - soul, rock, pop, jazz ...). The artists (who I saw) were great, but what happened to me, to me??? I was reminded of YOUR fantastic concert in Schwetzingen and I missed you, missed you ...

Special thanks for your love, for your kind and comforting words (MOtL, August, 4).

Carry on.

Love, Gerlinde

Dear Chris,

my son Ruben (12 years old, one of my twins) and I enjoyed the concerts in Nordkirchen, Schwetzingen and Mainz. Schwetzingen was fantastic. First Ruben didn't like it to sit on my knee to have a better look but then we had great fun. On our way home after the rainy night in Mainz he told me with a big grin that he will come with me (and our friends Jutta and Ina and Ela) next year to your shows. Also he had great fun saying goodbye to Jason (the *Chris* who was selling your CD's). Jason gave him a hug and took his hand and said: bye big man, see you soon! Ruben liked that.

Unfortunately we can't go to Killarney but Ina and I will visit Dublin in October this year. Perhaps...if you haven't something to do...feel free and do a concert...

Best wishes for you and your family!
Take care
Heike and Ruben

Dear Chris,

I'm just enjoying to read about using falsetto in your song "Borderline" in concerts. Yes, I can hear that there is a difference between the normal CD's and the concert CD. When I heared you singing on one of your first album, I think I could hear that your voice can reach very high for a man, and that has it been what made the first faszination about you many years ago.

Will you make a CD from the concert in Salem about which you told us that it will be your best this year in Germany?
If it is possible to make a CD from your concert in Ireland or about the Canadien Tour, please do it. It would be a great gladness for me and I think for some other fans too to hear from you till you can come back to Germany.

I hope this little message can reach you at home in the country with the lot of raindrops in the summertime.

Hope to see you again

Dear Chris,

I am still here... you know what I mean...
Well, I have a plan – or better, a dream, a dream which is far away. You know, there are different dreams, some which can’t come true at all, for they are just fantasy and some which might happen one day because they are possible, maybe far-fetched, but possible. Dreams are vital, everybody has got dreams, we couldn’t live without them, when they are disappeared you will exist further on but you have stopped living. I don’t give up on my dreams, you know, my dream of meeting you. Actually I was very near on realizing it at your concert – but this is another story, another letter for you.
Now I could say it depends on you, it’s up to you, but this I don’t want to, it would not be fair in the least, it would be rude and probably it took you under pressure. It is actually clinging...
Well, let’s just start dreaming away, far away, in fact I let you taking part, I want to share with you my crazy ideas. So much I would like to go to another concert of you – very soon, for I burst with aching for you. The one in Ireland, Killarney, sounds very interesting. I’ve never been to Ireland, I read a few books about it, saw films etc. and I can imagine it must be something special living there, the beautiful landscape and the nature are certainly extraordinary. Actually I’m dying to experience the place you are living and, of course, to be near you.
Can you hear me? I love you so much, I could cry out for you!
Well, the story: The day before I went by air to Dublin and you could pick me up. We go to your home, I will see how you live and learn to know you more in person... I stay the night at your home, the next day we go together to the concert venue, by plane or by car, I don’t know, the distance from Wicklow Hills to Killarney is not small... Being arrived you could show me exactly how it works behind the stage, in the evening I would enjoy the concert and afterwards we go home or stay in a hotel, again I have no idea, it’s an interesting question. At the next day you take me to the airport and I go home again, some time or other I have to do this, of course ;-).
Isn’t this an awful beautiful plan?!

The other suggestion is you will come to me. You could spend your holidays here, of course with your family, if you want to ;-). Surely you would like it, we live 30km south of Munich, you know, it’s actually a place where tourists spend their holidays. It’s a very beautiful area and here where I live, in a little village, I’m sure nobody would recognise you when we are walking through the wood or something.

I hope you are actually recovering after these stressful weeks with doing so many concerts almost every night. It must be very exhausting, I couldn’t sleep each time in another bed every night.
Tonight I dreamt you were very sad, I do hope this is not true, it was a bad dream... You know, those kinds where you wake up and start weeping and you don’t know yourself why exactly. Again, another sort of dream, we could write a treatise on it, couldn’t we :-)?

With all my love and respect
Your big fan Julia (18) from Germany

P.S.: Thank you very much for shaking hands with me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you like my picture I painted by myself – just for you.

Hello from Ottawa, Canada,

I have noticed, from the web site, that Chris de Burgh will be in Canada in November 2005. I anticipate that he will be performing the french version of "Five Past Dreams" which is entitled «Comme Un Rêve».

I would like to submit a few changes to the lyric adaptation by Jérôme Santelli? These suggestions are translations of the lines "It's in your eyes" and "Your smile" which I feel are so important in the English version. The changes would also allow the song to be entirely in french. Finally, the ending would be somewhat different.

I don't know what the original reaction will be but I had to try.

I would like to thank Chris de Burgh for his initiative in singing in french: « Merci beaucoup pour les belles mélodies et les beaux textes. Je suis persuadé que votre initiative de chanter en français est appréciée par plusieurs. »

A french-canadian fan

I'm desperately looking for the songbook "The Love Songs". Unfortunately the songbook is sold out everywhere.
If there is anywhere a happy owner of this songbook I would be very glad to get a copy of the song "So Beautiful"!
I'd like to play this song with my Saxophon at a wedding ceremony on 13. August 2005.

Hi Chris
I have just watched your "Road to Freedom" DVD which was recorded live in Germany last year, which was give to me by my boss.

I was absolutely thrilled with the music and watching you perform without a band was stunning.

You are my most favourite artist and get goosebumps each and everytime I listen to your music.

I was wondering if there was a chance that you might do another short stop in South Africa anytime in the future?

I have not had the pleassure of seeing you live, so I am still hoping (along with all your other fans) to do so.
May you continue to make fantastic music and who knows???? We might still see you one day.

Fondest regards
sonya

Hope you enjoyed performing concerts in Germany. Sounds like they went well. Sorry we couldn't be there. It's been really hectic.

But there is always Canada......?

Just got back from Corsica and it was a hot, steamy night, there I visited the cathedral at the top of the city and thought, yes, this is a perfect night for a Chris de Burgh concert in this beautiful cathedral, but you weren't there!! You would love it.

Hope to see you soon
