Hi Chris, 13 Years ago I loved one of your songs "lady in red". I was amazed when I just recently discovered 2 of your dvd's and just want to say I'm a great fan. Hope to see you one of these days in our country. Pieter

Chris, since after each concert you do the "partysongs", I've got only one life-time request: please do sing once in your life the Alex Harvey song: To make my life so beautifull.......
your voice seems to be the same hight, and I'm sure you know the lyrics and love the song as well....

see you in Amsterdam 2006.
this will be for my dear husband Maarten. when you decided to grant me this big favour, I probably will cry the whole song......
thanks Chris,
Beatrix

Hi Chris,
well as you know we have just spent a fantastic week in Canada and attended 4 of your Canadian concerts. This was all made only possible by the mutual love we all have for Chris de Burgh's music. None of this would have been possible without it, so for this, we have Chris(de Burgh) alone to thank, so THANKS Chris !! Andrea, Stewart and I were shown such 'love and kindness' by Stephanie and Robert, who took us to soo many places and showed us soo many things. From the rather strange concert in Quebec City, to the beautiful waterfall we saw on the way home from there, even if it was pouring with rain and freezing cold............................we had a great time.

We even learned the difference between a boat and a ship !!!!!!!!!! thanks to Stewart !!!

The other things I will remember so clearly about the actual concerts in Canada is, the audience reaction when Chris first walks on stage....it was absolutely mind blowing.......I doubt even a German audience could top the appreciation, love and warmth that the Canadians showed to Chris, and that I was lucky enough to witness
:-)) it all.
And for definite a UK audience would never ever top that reaction that I
witnessed in Montreal, Trois Riviere and to a degree in Quebec City.

The other one is without doubt the audience reaction to Spanish
Train....whow is all I can say to that one
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lonely Sky and The Tower and
Borderline also brought similar reactions !!!

Sure it cost us lots of money, but for Stewart and I, 'this is our time ' as we have spent 20 odd years with no money as we brought up our kids. Now I intend to 'live life to the full', and am enjoying it sooo much. Would we do it all again.....of course, and basically I can't wait to see Canada again and to meet with Stephanie and Robert ...maybe again in 2007 ? but first I have to work very hard at 'work' to be able to save the money up :-(((((
love and hugs,
Chris xx

Dear Chris,

Thank you very much for answering my questions on MOtL recently!

I guess that you have a huge pile of questions! I'd forgotten about having submitted the one about the book of messages from fans that was presented to you at the Show in Dortmund just over a year ago..

Oh yes you did thank your fans soon after the show but it was still great to hear it again! It was also really good to hear that you read everyone's messages..

Again - many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule just for us.

From the heart!

Chris R

Hi Chris,

First of all, I just read about the loss you have suffered, and you and your family have all my sympathy...

Thank you for another superb show in Montreal on November 17th. I think this was your best show yet. (I would have come back on Friday night but I couldn't make it.)

Your entire show was terrific, but the old favorites really "made" the night for me. Love that Beatles medley too. What a great way to end the night!

I think that's the sixth time I've seen you now, going back to the old days at Forum. You just keep getting better! Come back soon, you will always be very special to your Montreal fans. And someday, I have promised myself I will attend one of your shows in Ireland!

Best wishes

Hey Chris,Ive just found out you are coming to New Zealand to play at the Mission concert,I've got my tickets allready.I'd just like to say it's a great opportunity for you to market yourself here as I think you'l be playing to about 25000 people. You'll just love the venue especially if it's fine.I hope you bring the family 'cause it's a great place to holiday, and it's the wine capital of NZ.I'm just stoked as I thought I would never get to see you live.Unfortunately all the good tickets had sold out so me and my family will be picnicing toward the back.
I pray you'll enjoy it so much you'l be back, thanks for coming.

Dear Chris,

I have just seen your Motl answer about the diffent stiles in your music and want to tell you that my first records from you have been "Crusader","Eastern Wind", "At the end of a perfect day" collected in a special Album. The years when I heard your voice at first time for me on these records were filled with them till I heard "Lady in red" on radio, but I suddenly realised that it was your voice. A long time I did not get any information about you and new songs till the year 2004, when I heard you twice in concert with the new Album "Road to freedom". Since this time I discovered more and more new songs from you which I like very much too. And through your website and the Motl I can read from you and see more how you are working and what your thoughts to different things are. I think the most of my music I hear this days is now filled from you and this is very good for me. It is like to read in a book of a famos author, collecting his work to let it be alive in my life forever.

Sometimes I have a simple question to you and try to bring it in the Motl, that I can get an answer from you. I hope one question from me to you will be submitted to you.

But first I want to thank you for this wonderful way making music readable here on the webist and looking to the answers from you about some songs you wrote, about why and about what and what you thought while writing a song.

I hope you will get this letter in this sad time, that came so suddenly. And I wish you and your family to get time to be together.

Best wishes to you all for the future
from

Monika

I like the songs of Chris de Burgh so much! The first time I listen them was at a friend's home. He like it, too! It's funny cause we are 13, and my mother had heard them when she was a Teenager, too! The songs from "Man on the Line" are for me very important for me. I love the boy :)(the one I listened 1st time) and so I realized that his is very (I don't know the right word!:emotional) emotion and romance. The song I liked most is ectasy of flight! Thank you, Chris, for this songs and this feelings!!!

I saw Chris in concert on November 11,2005 in Toronto. Remembrance Day. In Canada we remember those Canadians who fought and died in the terrible World Wars. I detest war. I love and remember your songs Chris that are anti-war. *Borderline* was so moving. At the Roy Thompson Hall, I sat just to the left of center, in the little second row of five seats. (Only two seats were in the front row). Chris, you came off stage and sang right in front of me. I was wearing a white t-shirt from your 1986-87 world tour. All I could do was stare and listen. A lady from the back ran down the aisle and hugged you. I wished I could move. I have been to four of your concerts now, but never so close. It was 18 years since I saw you last. 8 years ago I had two of my favourite songs played at my wedding: *In a Country Churchyard*(real setting) and* Satin Green Shutters*. I am a person of variety and it seems that you are too. You really surprised me during the last 15 minutes of your 25 minute encore, singing Beatle songs. I love to dance though and you got me bopping. Your solo concert was very different for me. I had a good chance to let you know that you have been my all time fave singer for 22 years and I missed the chance. I missed many concerts of yours during the last 18 years because I never went on the computer much. I now know how to keep track of what is happening with you. I WOULD REALLY LOVE IT IF YOU CAN KNOW THAT I WROTE THIS. THANK YOU for making a good difference in this world. Your fan, Vicki

I want to thank you for the wonderful concert I saw. The shows in Montreal are like always the best, the atmosphere is incredible. But this week is was not only the shows that were great. The people I was with, the experience we shared, the things we did all together. All that because we share something in common: the love of your music, your songs, your lyrics, your shows.....

So please don’t stop and continue to sing, continue your tours and continue to write your beautiful songs. On my side, I will continue my support and continue the friendship that is now more that a Chris de Burgh song.

Hope to see you soon again, in Canada, Germany or UK ;-))) et félicitations encore pour cette belle tournée, pour votre générosité envers nous,

Dear Chris.

I have been a fan from the beginning, since Patricia the Stripper and Spanish Train. Your music has always meant alot to my husband and I. My husband actually saw you when you opened for Super Tramp. You have been a part of our lives for so long, that when it came to naming our son 17 years ago, we chose the name Christopher. To us you are a story teller, when you sing the words, we see the pictures , we are there. My favorite song will always be "Lonely Sky" and my husband's is "High on Emotion". It was unfortunate for us that we were unable to be at the show this week, but we were at the show you did at the Olympia Theatre two years ago and we have had the pleasure of being at all of your past shows in Montreal.Thank you so much for the music and the memories. Iwould like to know if it is possible to get a autographed picture for my husband, I think it would be a wonderful gift for him.
Thank you again for the wonderful music you have given us.

Great show Thursday night (Nov 17) at St. Denis, in the very building where I met you in the men's room at the premiere of Beatlemania (now Rain) in 1979 - a week or two before your Place des Nations show. (There truly was magic in the air that night - a lot of it.) I have been to several shows between the two, and never heard you sing anything from Far Beyond These Castle Walls. My favourite song is Hold On (which sustained me through a series of misguided relationships, but that's another story...), and I would love to hear it in concert just once. Maybe next time you're in Montreal.

Dear Sir,

My condolences for your recent loss. The lyrics of your songs prove that you have the wisdom and the words to help your family and yourself through this time of sorrow. You have now your very own angel that will watch over you and your loved ones.

Thanks for the lovely evening (St-Denis Théâtre)... again, your are outstanding. I had the pleasure tonight to have my daughter of 16 meet a one of a kind accomplished artist. I am so glad that she may now listen and feel in some other way (her own) your songs just as I do. She now has an idea of the man behind the cover of a jewel case & tray. "Songbird" was simply divine in an a capella version. I think you wanted it like that and my daughter Claudie thinks that you prefered the guitar that was being harmonized instead of the one in replacement... is she right?

Finally, thank you for sharing your life in words and music.

Dear Chris,

My name is Laura and I am 14 years old.

I would like to say that your music is fantastic. The words and passion that you put in your music are sensational. You have very deep thoughts when you write your music. You are an idol to me because by singing you are sending a message to all of us. For example, Borderine. I listen to that song over and over again.I agree, we do not need war and your song has alot of meaning to me.

I went to see your concert on the 17 of november in Montreal. It was amazing! You have an extraordinary voice and I admire your music as a 14 year old. In every word you sing there is a form of magic that grabs my attention. You have been a very big insperation to me. Your music frees me in a way that no one can understand. So many emotions come into play by hearing certain songs.

I learn to appriciate everything around me with your music. Hopefully you have alot more to come. I hope to hear more of your music. It touches my heart as it does so many others.
Keep the rock & roll and the stories alive!!

My deepest regards
Laura Camplani

Last Tuesday in Québec city, we had the chance to see again an outstanding artist. We were also touched by his kindness towards his french speaking audience.
There are people who have the gift for bringing happiness around, dear Mr de Burgh you are certainly one of them.

Don't stop telling us stories, nous les apprécions tant!

Thank you... mille fois encore

Dear Chris,

Please accept my condolences. I'm sure your strength and love will help Diane go through this safely. I'm 26 and I lost my beloved mom last year. I'm still in the shock in a way. Please tell Diane on behalf of me that she is so lucky to have had her mother around till the age she is.

I wish you and your family a long happy life.

Please keep singing, Chris, because many people, including me, need the hope and the love you give us through your music.

Thank you and God bless you.

I`m sure there are so many moments with your mother to remember, and most of them coloured with love, joy and faith. All of that you`ll always carry with you and she`ll stay on and on in your heart, as a part of you.

Dear Chris,

"Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die."

I hope that these words, written by Mary Frye, can help you a little bit during the hard times you are going through at the moment. I can imagine how much this loss hurts you and especially your wife - I have lost my mum in 1997 and my father-in-law 2003, so I know what I am talking about. However, I wish you success for the last concerts of the Canada-Tour and that you will be able to enjoy them at least a little bit. May your audience carry you through these times until you return home.

Best regards

Ilka

Chris your Ottawa show this past weekend was nothing short of amazing. I have been a fan since the first Lp and still listen to my vinyl collection and those songs not readily available on CD. I have not had the chance to see you live but when the opportunity came up this month I couldn't resist taking my wife along for a very romantic evening. Thanks for the music, the words and emotions each one seems to bring out in me. All the very best in the future and looking forward to your return to Canada's capital. A fan for life. Gary.

Oh Chris,

I want to offer my sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother-in-law, mother and grandma.

I'm so sorry that you cannot be at home..., but I know it's the classical dilemma (here: between the job and the family)...

Your music and your concerts - they mean just everything to us. While you are going through sad times, I only wish - I could give something back to you again.

From Gerlinde with love.

Dear Chris:

I have been to all your concerts in Ottawa since 1988, but I have been listening to you before then. My husband and I have all of your albums. This concert, I have to say was the best one yet. We got to sit right in the front row centre. I got tons of pictures, but the one I cherish most is the one I have taken with you. Thank you so much for that!!! Thank you also for the hug you gave me at the end of your concert!!! You are my favorite artist, and I could easily listen to you all day!!! I hope you come back to Ottawa soon!!!

I would also like to take the opportunity to give you and your family my condolences on the recent passing of your Mother-in-law. It must have been very hard for you to put your all into your concert and you did, maybe even more so.

Bonjour, cher Chris

Merci mille fois pour la merveilleuse soirée à Ottawa, Samedi. Tu es tout simplement fantastique! Tu reviendras nous voir, n'est-ce pas?

My sincere condolences to you, Diane and the children. May the memories comfort you all and may the spirit of your mother in law live among you like an ever dying flame.

With hopes and dreams of seeing you back in Ottawa with "The Storeman Tour". Never forget that we love you lots and are always looking toward to "La prochaine soirée avec Chris De Burgh". Oceans, mountains and kilometers may separate us physically, but our hearts are always with you.

Good bless you, Chris et merci mille fois!

Just wanted to pass on my sympathy for your family's loss. You have such a strong spirit to be able to "Carry On". My cousin died suddenly last year in Calgary at an early age. He introduced me to your music back in the early '80's and we both felt connected through our love for your songs. "Carry On" is my favourite and helped me through his passing. Your words are inspired and uplifting to us all. I know you have great faith and will be with your loved ones "Up Here in Heaven" one day. Thank you so much for the amazing show in Toronto. My husband spoils (or sometimes the word is tollerates) me and got us great seats in the 6th row. I enjoyed every minute of the concert, I could listen all day (thank goodness for CD's). Take care and take our love home with you for yourself and your family.
Always a fan,

My condolences to you and yours for the loss of your mother-in-law. Thank you for being with us even though I'm sure you would have rather have been elsewhere.

What an amazing night! Your Ottawa concert was the most intimate, amusing, wonderful evetn I've ever been to. I grew up listening to my "big sister" talk about Spanish Train and Patricia and in my late teens I started listening to your music. Your music has always mezmerized me but to be there in person to listen to you...just you and your instruments...was truly spectacular. I couldn't believe how your voice could fill the room and vibrate through my head. That you are so interractive with your fans is great...you walked right by me at the end of the middle section (I was the one frantically trying to get my chair out of your way!). A superb evening!
I have a ton of pictures from the evening that I will cherish.

First, I want to thank you for the most amazing night in Toronto. It truly was a wonderful night and my heart goes out to you all, Chris was amazing, to continue on, giving so much of yourself to all of us when your heart must have been breaking for the loss of Diane's mother and not being with the ones you love at such an important time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Friday night was truly a magical party, the music was great, Chris, was in great voice and looked fit and gorgeous. It was touching to see your kindness to the children who came up to the stage and the wonderful time had by all, hearing old favourites and the wonderful encore songs, it was hard to say goodbye. Continued success to you, I'm already hoping for a return visit. God Bless!

With heartfelt sympathy for your loss, and deep gratitude for the many sacrifices you make for your loyal fans. Know that our hearts are with you and yours. I was the one who gave you the Teddy Bear from Wisconsin and the card at the Toronto show. Every time you play in Toronto (or London), it's a wonderful excuse for me to come up to Canada and stay with old and dear friends. Looked for the little restuarant you recommended on the corner of Sadina & College...no luck (there was a Burger King??). Also, there was a wonderful blond lady sitting next to my friend and I who kindly said she would email me some photos....I ran out of film after one shot!! (had a 12 exposure, NOT a 24...urg!) Chris:

Tonight was a magical night, during your intimate concert here in Ottawa. The ambience was amazing. I sat there, as if part of a huge family, mesmerized by your voice, with my twelve year old daughter at my side. Five rows up, dead centre, eye to eye with you as you manned the microphone, I closed my eyes and drifted away into "yesteryear". I fondly remembered times when I would listen to you with good friends...Dave Ellis, Anna Ritchie, Gord Fanning and Ed Brooks, at my side, back in the days of 1979. Time has been oh so good to you and your voice. Congradulations!
The years have passed us by, but the magic is alive. It lives in your voice.
It was a pleasure for us to be a part of your Ottawa experience.

I was at your Toronto concert last night, and was so deeply touched by you sharing the passing of Dolly. The whole evening felt dedicated to her. I lost a very dear friend a month ago, and have been unable to shed a tear till last night. I cried with you and sent you Reiki to help in your healing. Thank you for helping me feel. Besides that, your concert was beyond words, out of this world. A friend said you were giving a concert in Britain in Feb 2006, I get airline passes, and am coming. Thank you for being in my life. I attended your performance in St. John's NL on Nov. 9/05. Once again it was quite amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed it even though I had not previously heard your new material. I especially enjoyed your walk through the venue as that gave us a better chance to get a glimpse of you. Best of luck to you in your future endeavours. Look after that wonderful voice.

hello..

first of all;
i think chris de burgh is one of worlds
greatest singer/songwriters in popular music.
only time will tell.
in the seventies his records with producer rupert hine were groundbreaking, and all classics.
the eighties he released some great albums with beautifull songs.
in the ninetees he did the same and he is still alive in the world of popmusic.
his latest studio album road to freedom is pure pleasure to listen.
chris de burgh gives me the inspiration to make music and to go on !!
I hope he will keep on going !!

Chris,

Almost everyone of your song could be brought back today as a hit.

I found and listened to the girl with april in her eyes 8 times last night and 2x going to work today. That song is haunting and I love it.

I haven't been able to find any of your current stuff{do you have any?}.

In Montreal it was easy but now...

You need to come back! What made you leave the music scene?

Thanks/

Hi there,
I'm looking forward to your concert at Roy Thompson Hall on November 11th. It's been a little over 9 years since I last saw your concert at The Molson Ampitheater (September 21st, 1996).
My father played all of your music when I was a child, and it has become part of my adulthood (as I'm now 27). I am bringing my Dad with me this Friday.
Thanks for always coming to Canada, as you have a firm fan-base here.
See you Friday.
Sincerely,
Julie and Michael Guirey.

Hi!
You are in Quebec right now for this Tour and for the first time in more than 20 years, I will not be able to go to see you on stage. Actualy, we are a few fans who will not go. A simple reason, the tiket price! I know its not awfully expensive but for new parents, students and hill peaple (has I am), its just out of range... I d'ont worry for you, you will be sold out ;-) It's just so frustating knowing you are in Montreal soon and there's nothing we can do :-q
I wich you luck, and keep hoping to be able to have one of my dearest dream coming true one day; seeing you on stage in Ireland! Take care and thank you for all those great stories you keep telling us!
Oh! Just a thought... if you ever want to be a spoke person for Reflex Dystophy Syndrom, a sikness wich every thing is related to pain, let me know ;)
Merci infiniment!

Chris - "Spanish Train" was the first CD we put in the player this summer when were departing on a two-week camping trip, and my kids (aged 6 and 8) wouldn't let us play another for the entire trip!! I was very pleased with their musical taste, and have decided to reward them by taking them to their very first concert -- Chris de Burgh, Ottawa Civic Centre, November 12th! And imagine my luck -- four tickets together in the sixth row! I am really looking forward to a great show....please consider playing "Spanish Train" -- the kids will be a bit crestfallen, otherwise. "Patricia the Stripper" is their second favourite, of which I am not so proud, but that's really your fault, isn't it ;-).

Thanks -- see you Saturday!

Dear Chris,

have a good flight to Canada (and of course a nice return flight). I wish that you enjoy your forthcoming tour, the Canadian people and their country.

God may bless you on the road and up in the sky - just everywhere -, because we need and love you.

I hope that you don't feel too lonely. Remember your own words: "Though you are far away, I feel that you are near...".

Missing you and thinking of you, Gerlinde

P.S. Wasn't in the right place at the right time (crash)... Now, I'm going on my boat and sail away.

I look forward to seeing you in concert in St. John's, Newfoundland on November 9, 2005 , my third time seeing you and I am now counting the days. I saw you here in May 2003 and I could not believe my ears when you started to sing THE TOWER, thank you for that. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next album.

Hi,

I'm absolutely delighted to sign your guest book. I was 13 in 1978 when I attended my first Chris de Burgh concert at the Arts and Culture Center in St. John's. I still have my t-shirt from your 1988-89 Flying Colours tour. I was at that concert in Toronto. This year I'm taking my 14 year old son to see you at Mile One in St. John's on November 9th. Looking forward to it.

Hi Mr de Burgh,

My name is Catherine Forest and I am writing on behalf of my mother. Actually, she dosen't know about any of this. Her name is Francine Meilleur. You two met a few years ago while she was on a business trip in Quebec city. I believe it was at the restaurant's hotel where you guys checked in, you invited her at your table where you were eating with your crew. (After that, when she got home, she kept playing "Separate Tables", I wonder why!) Then, we met backstage after your show in Montreal. (By the way, my mother would kill me if I told you this but anyway she believes that when you dedicated the song "Tender Hands" that night it was actually for her:)since the two of you had talk about it previously and you never named the person to whom the song was destined) The thing is, my grandmother, her mother died a few days ago and I was looking for something to cheer her up... since it has been a very painful ordeal. And then, the announcement of you being on the Star Académie show came up. So, it was the perfect idea since she loves the show and she loves you (well your music!!) Only, it is very difficult, nearly impossible to get tickets for that show. So, I was wondering if it might be possible to find a pair of tickets for her and myself (since, I grew up with your music and I do know the lyrics of a good share or your songs!)Oh! and, I will say this : as a 25 years old girl I do appreciate the lyrics to many of your songs :)

I will be waiting for your answer.

Sincerely yours,
Catherine Forest
