Dear Chris

For almost thirty years I didn't know well your work. I knew hits like "Flying", "Lady in red" etc...
Searching for "Flying" (I had the vinyl single since 1976)at Internet I discover the really Chris de Burgh and became your inconditinal fan. Excuse me for those years of ignorance and let me send you a great hug and many thanks for the new pleasure moments I have listening your music.
Kind regards.

Hi Chris!
Delighted you have put Benediktbeuren/Germany (Oberbayern to be precise), on your Tourlist. Guess it is worthwile going home for... I grew up just a few miles away from it, in a little place called Bad Kohlgrub. A tip: Fly in by heli and have a good look around, it is one of the more beautiful spots on the planet, and the view from any of the mountains there will be worth your while. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Love, Light and Joy

Dear chris!

Last week I bought your new album and I was surprised to hear your lovely voice in such intensive songs.
One song tauched me by heart- The Journey. Three weeks ago my grandma died and I didn´t have the oppotunity to talk to since Christmas time last year. Your song shows my thoughts about her sudden death. You bring my minds in words.
Thank you so much for this song.Katja

Hi Chris, Youu touched my heart in 1979 when I was a young sound engineer at Scottish Television you came into the studio during your visit to Edinburgh. You played "The Girl With April In Her Eyes" from the Crusader album on solo guitar...you blew me away!! On buying the album for that one song, I discovered a collection of the most haunting & evocative lyrics and tunes that remains one of my most favourite albums to this day. Such was the passion & beauty in those love songs, I bought a copy for a lady friend to whom I could not match the words you so delicately penned...what my heart wanted to say, you had already said it with music!
"Beautiful Dreams" with its orchestral backing is another favourite...thank goodness for CDs...otherwise it would be worn out by now!
I wish you continued success and please give us more years of your beautiful songs and stories.

Hello Chris,

I have been a big fan of your work since I was introduced to it by a friend in the army. When I listen to your music from that time it bring back so many memories, all of them good! The last years I have not really listened to your new albums, a bit here and there, yet now I came a cross your latest....sensational, and especially the song Songbird, this one is (my opinion) the best one I have ever heard (except from Spanish Train, which is my absolute favourite). The only thing that bothers me is your tours, why would you not come to Scandinavia? I would be delighted to have you in either Sweden or Denmark. Keep up the good work, you are the one!

P.S I would be interested to arrange you for a private concert, would you be interested in that? If you would please contact me. D.S

Dear Chris,

since the release of the Man on the line album I have been listening to your music - I was 14 - I used to translate all your lyrics and the Getaway Gazette, I learnt all the vocabularies: that´s how I was connected to the English language in a very special way.
Though I listen to all kinds of music, I just feel at home when I listen zu yours. Yes, I think that´s the way it is: When I am feeling down and listen to your music it´s like coming home... A few days ago I bought your new album and I just love the song: Over the rainbow - I don´t know why, maybe because of the sound of the guitars, the melody - but also because I love the song "Fields of gold" sung by Sting and by the "songbird" (I don´t remember her name...). A melancholy that keeps me warm...I like playing it on my Cello!

Thanks very much for your music that goes with me every day and will always be a part of my life. I am looking forward to your concert in Stuttgart May 19th,

take care, Sonja

Hi Chris!

Just to say a big Thank You for taking time out for your fans at the signing in Woolworths, Birmingham yesterday.

It was great fun for me meeting up face to face with another fan I'd got to know through the Internet because of your signing - Thanks!

It must have been very hard work for you but you were very patient with everyone! I saw that you were being bombarded every which way - the Press were hovering, you waited for people while they fumbled in bags for covers, posed for photos, answered questions, accepted hugs, attended to everything that was plonked in front of you and kept smilin'....I'd have been out of there!!!

I very much appreciate all you do to keep up to speed with your fans and I trust that you are going to get a damned good rest after all this promotional stuff! I can't keep up with you - I'm exhausted thinking about it all!

Looking forward to your Tour and once again thanks for making my day yesterday.

From the heart!

Hi Chris,

I have grown up over my 42 years and have listened to you from a very early age and enjoyed what I heard. Congratulations to you on a very fine album, "The Road To Freedom" which has to rate as one of the best I've heard in a long time, not that your music and songs will ever fade away.

I must also congratulate your daughter Rosanna on her recent win in Miss World last year.

Keep up the songwriting and the very excellent music, long may you continue.

Many Thanks for such wonderful music,

Chris.

PS: I'll continue to listen to you for as long as I live because you are simply the best songwriter I've ever come across.

Wow Mr, De Burgh, thank you so much for your music, I really love it. I grew up hearing you in the house, I'm 16 now. It was my mum that turned my on to you. Your music brings her so much joy, now day their isn't much to be happy about for her, but she still listens to you. When I was little she had the Spanish Train tap, when ever she sees a C,D she buys it. I don't know what her favourite song is but when I was little I liked "Patricia the Striper". For some reason I really liked that one. Now I don't really have a favourite, but love all of them. Yesterday I kinda had a fight with a close friend, I felt better this morning, and my mum woke my up when she was sing your songs. After, she handed me your CD, and as I'm typing this I'm listening to you, and "When I think of You" makes me feel so much better about the whole thing. Keep up the great work, my mum Tammy will always love you, and so will I.

Thank you for filling my house with a little bit of your light.

Hi Chris

A few days ago I've send you an email, but i can't find it back in your guestbook. Why is this? Is it because I said, that I can't play it on my cd player? I Asked in that email if there where more people who had this problem, the storemanager told me that it has to do with the copy-protection.
Now I have a cd which I can't play. I'm very disapointed, because I love all your music, and have so many cd's of you. Please put this email in your guestbook this time. Do you have tips about the cd, so I can play it on my cd-player?

Love you Chris!

My Dear Chris,

Congratulations on a totally vintage album release with The Road to Freedom. You have matured over the years like a very fine wine! I think this will go down as my personal favourite to date - the sensitivity and emotion in your voice is truly excellent and the musicality of this album is magnificent.
You have found yourself again in this collection of songs - not that you were ever really lost...Your early fans will be quietly satisfied with the content of the songs and themes. Here's to another 30 years ?? !! Even that wouldn't be sufficient for all you have to say to us...

BIG HUG and gentle kiss to you and your family.

Received "The Road to Freedom" and am listening for the third time. It's a wonderful album and since there is not a weak track it possibly is your best yet. There are so many unforgettable ones on different albums - "Last Night", "Lonely Sky", "Borderline", the haunting "The Traveller" and so many more.
Your voice is better than ever!
I travelled to Quebec City last May for your concert and it was a memorable night for me. It would be wonderful to be able to see another one but age is catching up with me and the U.K. and Germany are so far away.

it's me !! The singer of the band "The Cubes". We recorded a new CD and on the 18th of May I will present the CD to Chris de Burgh. 2 years ago I presented him an old CD from my former group, but the qualitiy was not very good. It was the beginning. ;-) It has to be fantastic to play for one time with Chris de Burgh or as the opening band of a Chris de Burgh Concert. Chris de Burgh has big influence on my music style.

I hope my dream will come true !! ;-)

Best regards

Frank

We've just got The Road to Freedom and its been playing non stop. Its brilliant. Although we have been fans forever I have always prefered Chris's older stuff and this new album is like the old Chris, at his very best!
Looking forward to seeing him in Harrogate in October - front row seats, can't wait!

Chris has proven to be a real master of music, his lyrics have touched many a heart including mine. He reminds me of a minstrel whose music manages to span through the ages; weaving its magic and carrying one to places afar. I have seen Chris twice in concert in South Africa as well as once at Ragley Hall here in the UK - cannot wait to see him perform once again. Lived in South Co. Dublin as well as Wicklow for a while and felt privileged to share some of the beauty of the Irish countryside; understanding how it can inspire such an artist to create such wonderful music.

Only Chris de Burgh touch my feelings. The only artist who makes me cry with his songs. I loved the new album a lot. The 'Songbird' was adorable. And the song 'Read my name' was too perfect. From the older albums, I'm still singing the 'OLD FASHIONED PEOPLE'.
Chris de Burgh is always in my music world. Keep making perfect productions and songs.

I remember it was two days before my birthday in 1996. He gave a concert in amsterdam and at the end f the gig i went to the back of the building where Chris would come out. There he was. I asked for a picture and there i was, standing shoulder to shoulder. It was great. And then when he was getting into a car i started singing for him..a few lines of the theme from Arthur 2 on the rocks. He listened, that meant a lot to me...that was the most memorable day of my life.

Chris, we in Volendam love you!

while looking at a much music video
of my favorite song of all time

the lady in red

they mentioned Chris de Burgh's
birhtday of "October 15 1948"

I got a cold chill down my neck
that the singer of my favorite song
the lady in red "did I mention that"

is also my "birthdate" I was quite
amazed

I will now think of Chris de Burgh
every time it's my birthday

I bought the new album this week and I can't stop listening to "The Journey".
It's such a beautiful song. Both the melody and the lyrics. I wonder if he wrote it for somebody in particular. Well, I really hope that he'll perform it during his solo concerts this summer.

Hi :-)
Congratulations - a wonderful album, full of emotions and full of power, too! I don´t know which song is my favourite - I like "When winter comes/The road to freedom/Snow is falling" very much, but I also like "Rose of England" and "Five past dreams" and and and... ;-)
When I heard "Read my name" for the first time I was impressed! I love the power of this song and I think it will be much fun to hear it live! For me it sounds a little bit defiant. While hearing it first I thought about my sons, especially the older one - he trys to live as normal as possible but there are so many borders he can´t get over. And sometimes he crys and says "Why can´t all the people take me as that as I was born, why must I learn all these things which are so heavy to learn for me?" I like this song for the power in it, for the words in it and for the feeling of proud and courage which it gives to me!
I also love "Kiss me from a distance" from the single-CD - it´s a song which is a bit different as I had expected - but the melody takes me with the song from its beginning to its end.
Can´t wait until Münster, Düsseldorf and Köln :-)!
All the best from
Ina

I just recieved "The Road To Freedom" in the mail today and I must say BRAVO Chris. This surely will go down as one of your best. The first 3 songs go so very well together, nice touch. One of the stand out parts was hearing Rosanna sing, although her part was very small. Here's hoping we get to hear more from her.

Dear Chris,

I've just listened to the new album for the 20th time, I think, and every time I discover new, beautiful parts of the songs and new feelings inside me listening to them. What an amazing album! What a powerful strong voice - better than ever! I can't wait to see you in Stuttgart in Mai and to spend this "intimate evening" with you. I am so curious what it will be like...

My favourite is "The Journey" - having lost my beloved father-in-law last year an my mother some years ago, I love songs that help me to remember, to cry and to cope with it.

Thanks again for being my favourite songwriter - or should I say song celebrator - for almost 25 years.

Love from Germany,
Ilka

Dear Chris,

I was saddened to see your comments on MOTL today. (March 10) You have so many wonderful, beautiful things in your life to be thankful for. Indeed, your life has been touched with blessings and sorrows- as with all of us- some, more blessings, and some, more sorrows. But only you know the truth as to how you and your family live your lives. That should be enough. Don't get so caught up in what others may say, and please DON'T make the mistake of saying, "ALL Irish, do this"…There are people all over the world who will always be jealous of others success, that is simply human nature. But the nature of the Divine, is to delight in what you have been blessed with, and hope that those who live in ignorance will see the light. You are a keeper of the light-shine it on those beautiful spaces that we all need to see, and not on the small corners where some petty people may dwell. Ireland is you home, and her people, your people. You are very fortunate to live in such a country of contradictions, maybe, but inside us, we are all flawed, we are all a bit envious at times, we are all human. The Irish being no more, and no less than anyone else.

Hi Chris/all,

The new album 'Road to Freedom' arrived in the post yesterday (much to my surprise as it's official UK release date was 18th March - thanks to cdeb.net for the great service !).

Suffice to say the new album is superb. Great to hear the return to some '70s sounding semi-solo guitar and piano tracks. The linkage/continuity on the first three tracks is a great way to open the album. The latin/hawaian influences towards the end of the album are also great fun !

My favourite track after a few listens is 'Road to Freedom' - the celtic influence and drum-beats at the beginning remind me of my favourite band, Runrig, whom I discovered incidently as your support act on the Flying Colours tour.

All in all, a great start for the Ferryman stable !!

Cheers,
Martin

Dear Chris,

I read the entry of the man from the Bahamas in the "Man on the line" section and it remembered me of my time at Bargy Castle in 1985 and also of your wonderful father, who invited me that time. I also remember a dog, his name was Crusader and he was huge irish wolfhound. What came in my mind was an American couple, leaving their car for staying at Bargy when it was still a hotel, seeing Crusader and the woman got so scared and cried and then they drove away. We had to laugh so much, because Crusader even didn´t catch a fly. I have so nice memories of that time and I think your father lead a big part in easing my life after the death of my mother. Now almost 20 years later I wanna say thank you for that time and thank you very much for your songs, guiding me for almost my whole life (my first concert was 1981 on the Marienburg in Würzburg, Germany when you were one of the first acts of that day).
